A fight that escalated to gunfire between rival biker gangs in a Waco, Texas, restaurant parking lot today left nine people dead, police said.
Eighteen people were taken from the scene to hospitals, mostly for gunshot and stab wounds, Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said at a news conference. Everyone involved was a gang member, police said.
The violence began as a fight between "criminal biker gangs" at the Twin Peaks Restaurant in the Central Texas Market Place early this afternoon, Swanton said. The fight then spilled into the parking lot where gang members fired at each other, Swanton said.
"As that fight progressed, it progressed very rapidly from hands and feet as weapons to chains," he said. "My understanding a club was involved and knives were involved."
Officers were at the scene when the shooting started, police said, and some officers fired at the bikers. No officers were injured, police said.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as 100 rounds fired from 30 guns.
Police closed the entire Central Texas Market Place shopping area, saying that there was a danger of more violence.
"It is still not totally secure because of the intel that we're getting of individuals wanting to do some payback," he said.
Over the past few months, he says they were aware of rival biker gangs causing issues at the Twin Peaks restaurant.
"We have attempted to work with the local management of Twin Peaks to get that cut back to no avail," he said. "They have not been of much assistance to us."

Well, what he wanted was for the restaurant to put a sign outside that read like this, “No biker colors allowed in the restaurant”.
How in the world did he think that would stop the bikers from being there and starting a fight? That is a huge parking lot outside that restaurant and a sign isn't going to make them go away.
I hear you loud and clear.
If it were not for a few dear dog friends, here, I would be gone, myself.
That whole “like minds” thing I loved back in 2002 is dwindling ever more, daily.
I hope you’re catching all the breathless “revisions” being doled out to the rats caught in the matrix.
And now they’re showing the *old* video of the black Jap bike riders [now referred to as a “biker gang”] who got ticked off when one of their buddies was run over by an SUV, permanently paralyzing him.
Man, we’re gonna flog this meme, hard.
Meat is meat, to dog.
:)
All the bars here have signs that say no colors allowed.
No colors are worn at those bars.
Nothing happens in the parking lots, either.
Oh, except for once.
A bunch of “good” people found a lone 1% having a beer after work and dragged him outside and beat the hell out of him.
“And now theyre showing the *old* video of the black Jap bike riders [now referred to as a biker gang] who got ticked off when one of their buddies was run over by an SUV, permanently paralyzing him.”
Oh, I remember that. The riders were harassing him and one deliberately and abruptly stopped in front of him causing a near riot and when he feared for his life he decided to leave.
Did you just make that up?
A hundred thousand comedians out of work and you try to be funny. Don’t quit your day job.
“Not every biker there was a 1%’er type”
Correct. Some were just wannabees.
Incorrect.
The driver had almost run over them *before* he actually did successfully run over one of them.
You have never ridden in a group of bikes.
You have no idea what drivers do to us, all the time.
Every single time I do the vet hospital benefit run, I wonder if I’ll get home alive.
That 40+ miles on I-81 is the longest ride of my life.
I said: Just go! Just go! Ms. Ng recalled. In my mind we needed to get out of there. We were not going to survive.
“The driver had almost run over them *before* he actually did successfully run over one of them.”
These were street stunt riders that thought they owned the road.
“You have never ridden in a group of bikes.”
I was riding bikes before you were born. My father was riding Harleys before WWII.
“You have no idea what drivers do to us, all the time.”
Right. Bikers get angry if a car gets within a car length of them but will cut off a car by inches or go whitelining. DUH!
According to the Bandidos, ‘We own the road, if you pass us you are toast’. (of course I toned down the language.)
If a sheriff asked that... I suppose it's not an unreasonable request. I've seen that very same notice notice on doors to biker bars, in Texas.
One little beer bar that just closed down last December, in particular...
Every now and then I would visit that place during the day, since my now deceased sister and her husband (also deceased) used to frequent the place. Friendly place during the day...
Evening-time at that joint, there could be genuine rough crowd.
Way out of my league, and some of them I was concerned may have mistaken myself for my younger brother...who's on a serious serious bad list. He messed with the wrong people, some years ago. And they still remember. If they had thought I was him (my brother) it's highly possible they may have killed me, right on the spot.
“You have never ridden in a group of bikes.”
Amazing thought process ... We love the open road but then box ourselves in so we have no freedom or open road.
Go figure.
And what of those who were not either?
But never mind, TROLL.
I don't give a flying damn for any further sound that comes out of you.
Seriously.
Drop dead.
“The driver had almost run over them *before* he actually did successfully run over one of them.”
They were hemming him in so he wouldn’t get in the way of their illegal street stunts. Bikers are dopers.
“And what of those who were not either?”
They were fools to go to a meeting hosted by the leaders of the outlaw gangs.
Dumb, dumber, dumbest!
Shut up, troll.
“”outlaw gangs”. Shut up, troll.”
Truth hurt?
No, didn’t make it up. I kept wondering what the restaurant could do that would have prevented this and finally read what the sheriff wanted them to do. A flimsy sign saying no biker colors inside, would not have had one thing to do with the fire fight that started outside.
The restaurant has said there was no fight in the restaurant, it all happened outside. The restaurant is a place to eat, not a police station looking for trouble.
