The firefight in Waco between rival outlaw motorcycle gangs is raising questions about perceptions and portrayals of crime in America.
Washington The prevailing images of protests in Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri, over police killings of black men were of police in riot gear, handcuffed protesters, tear gas and mass arrests. The main images of a fatal gun battle between armed bikers and police in Waco, Texas, also showed mass arrests carried out by nonchalant-looking officers sitting around calm bikers on cell phones.
The firefight in Waco is raising questions about perceptions and portrayals of crime in America, considering the vehement reaction that the earlier protests got from police, politicians and some members of the public.
Media critics, columnists and civil rights activists are complaining that there appears to be little societal concern about the gunplay at a restaurant in Texas, whereas politicians including President Barack Obama described violent looters in Baltimore as "thugs," and the media devoted hours of television and radio airtime to dissecting social ills that affect the black community.

There were no deaths during the Baltimore and Ferguson protests, yet people immediately stereotyped all of the protesters as criminals, said Nicole Lee, a human rights lawyer who worked with protesters in both cities.
"Nine people were killed in Waco, and yet you have not heard the level of disgust and dismay as you did over fires burning in Ferguson and in Baltimore," Lee said. "One of the things the protesters always said was that while many of them disagreed with the property destruction, that you can rebuild property. But you can't bring back people, and yet you're not hearing an equal amount of disgust from the media and from people over what happened in Waco."

“The dead and wounded seem to have almost if not exclusively law enforcement bullets in them.”
You have seen the autopsy reports?
Well yes. The bikers were killing each other. The protesters were destroying a city.
Key phrase.
How desperate do you have to be to conflate "trying to flee on their bikes" with "standing with their hands up"?
“Well, its understandable. Even though they are criminal, drug dealing scumbags, they project an image that resonates... kind of the last vestige of that Wild West frontier spirit.”
Some say the same about the rioter in Ferguson and Baltimore ...
Have you ever followed the actual story of “thuggee” a cult practice that arose in 19th century India. In the name of one of the Hindu deities of destruction, it managed to style double-crossing to be a virtue. The British did not humor that (and neither did mainstream Indian religious practice).
Look at biker codes of honor and how they actually play out in real life. Who shot and knifed whom at Waco? Where are the crying families of dead innocent bystanders? (Crickets)
As for whom is heartbroken when anyone dies, you have to look above you to see that. Looking below you, you will miss it.
“Nobody is claiming the bikers were shot in the back with their hands up, either. “
Sort of. I have seen no posts where they said they had their hands up.
Thugs and punks in Baltimore were allowed to loot, riot, set fire, and even stone police officers.
Thugs and punks in another city were met with appropriate force. It should be same everywhere. Without Obama and pals plus liberal progressives it would be.
Nope. The authorities took out the trash. Twin Peaks is gone for good.
The rest of that retail center has re-opened for business and life returns to normal in Waco, Texas.
"Is Janet Reno in town?"
LOL!
I’d love to see the ballistics report that you seem to have an exclusive view of.
I didn't see any white bikers jumping any Blacks in the area.
I didn't see bikers jumping on, destroying, burning police cars.
I didn't see any resisting arrest once the gunfight ended.
I didn't see Bikers throw rocks & bottles at cops.
We haven’t gotten to the point where people are claiming them poor bikers came out shouting “hands up, don’t shoot!?”
Or will that be tomorrow?
“170 white thugs got a million dollar bond on each of them in Waco. How many Baltimore tbugs got that amount?”
I don’t think there were organized crime murders during the riots. They clearly should have had higher bonds, but that is the difference between racist socialist suburbs of DC, and a proper judicial system in normal America.
Waco is right, Baltimore and Ferguson were wrong.
as was riding down the road today came upon a military police vehicle (fully armored) which was led by an unmarked .... Thought was .... poor idiots.
What's the key word. Mass arrests.
With the arrests, things were under control.
There is no honor in the “biker code” only cowardice and extortion and manipulation framework.
“I actually might be one of them dont know all the facts yet, but the GUNFIGHT inside Harrahs Casino in Laughlin between rival biker gangs was completely SETUP and Orchestrated by the POLICE, It all came out in the TRIALS in which EVERYONE WAS ACQUITTED. So until I see real evidence I do not EVER BELIEVE THE POLICE ON ANYTHING!”
ROTFLMAO!
“When bikers have a rumble they man up about it... gotta respect “
Respect to a bunch of violent low-lifes? never.

Half of what I know about the real cult comes from less than reliable books/movies. But I have read a little about the real thing. They had issues, but I’d rather face them than the current threats to our country.
