Gloria Steinem is among 30 women activists marching from Beijing through the demilitarized zone dividing North and South Korea in a call for peace next Sunday. The event marks the International Womens Day for Peace and Disarmament.
The 81-year-old activist told Reuters that it seems to me that the past of no contact has not worked, invoking former President Ronald Reagans call to tear down the Berlin Wall.
We are saying: Take down this isolation, she said, according to the report, which also notes that the organizers will meet with North Korean women and tour a maternity hospital, a womens factory in Pyongyang and a preschool.
Both countries have approved the rare crossing of the DMZ, a rare event that has generated criticism among those who say the event could be used as propaganda by the North.

Old Gloria should get Dennis Rodman to show her around...what a hoot! Can’t make it up with these commie libs.
She better not fall asleep.
So was the recent execution by anti-aircraft fire.
Everything in NorK is theater!
Obama is trying to tear down all America’s fire walls we have in place to keep our enemies out. Iran, Cuba and now it is North Korea’s turn.
“”From Beijing to Seoul is 850 miles. An octagenarian is going to walk 850 miles in one day? (Seoul is just the other side of the DMZ.)””
I think your post is being ignored but it doesn’t make sense to me either...Is the Beijing part a mistake??
The article claimed that she was part of a group that was marching from Beijing to South Korea. That’s an 850 mile journey. If that’s a mistake, it’s on the part of the original journalist.
That’s what I figured....pretty dumb mistake. They never admit to their errors, do they?
I’m not sure if it’s the journalist’s error, or his mindlessly accepting an outrageous claim. Sorta like those “hunger strikers” who fast on bread and water for 1 hour.
