First you couldn’t display faith in public, now displays of faith at a national prayer function are banned. How long before prayer will be banned in churches?

If it is illegal to talk about God at a prayer breakfast, then what does one talk about at prayer breakfasts? Did ‘God’ come up at the one held for the White House?

Yes there can be a ‘show offy’ sort of Pharisee way folks sometimes display about their faith which is mostly about them. Yet Christ made a very serious comment about what happens when we deny Christ before men!
Of course it's true that God hears our prayers wherever we are, but I respectfully disagree with the claim that it "isn't necessary to display your faith in public". As Christians we are called to be a light for the world, salt of the earth, to be witnesses for Christ. This can take many forms but we aren't to keep our faith behind closed doors. This is what the world wants. Because when it's behind closed doors, only in a church building on Sunday's, Christ isn't truly physically present to others. Which is the Christian method. Faith through a witness. Christ present among us.
The world wants Him hidden because then it is easier to wield control and power. Without Christ physically present the yearning for Him in every man's heart can be easily perverted and distorted by the world's powers into a "desire" for sex, or money, or "things", all of which the world claims are "satisfying". Without Christ present to remind those in the world of their true desire, we end up chasing after such "things" to fill the void only He can fill. And we are so wretched we need Him present every day to remind us of our true desire, which is Him. So we as Christians are required to display our faith in public by living our faith in the public square. Otherwise we can't really claim we "love our neighbors as ourselves".
I watched the video of this man at the prayer meeting. By the complainant's own admission this meeting was a private affair. In no way endorsed or funded or otherwise supported by the DoD. The general in question went there of his own volition. Exercising his God given RIGHT (and as I describe above, his duty) to freedom of expression of his religious beliefs. Also, as far as I'm aware, it is written in military code or law that every active duty service member must wear his uniform in public whenever attending a formal event such as this. I could be wrong about that.
But if not, then this was clearly just a case of a man who happens to be an Air Force general, who is speaking at a private event about his faith. At no point during his speech does he say or even imply anything like "the Air Force should be Christian" or "As a general, I order all my subordinates to be Christians". No, he only speaks about his faith how it has benefitted HIM, himself! In other words he's giving a testimony based on experience. How can it be said he can't say what he wants in public about his faith simply because he's in uniform?
One thing I imagined as I watched the video was if he were in a simple suit and tie, would we be having this conversation? Would Mr Weinstein have as much problem with him if he were not in uniform? Again it goes back to the question: are active duty military required to be in uniform at formal events? If so,"Mikey" has no standing to complain.
He's complaining because he has an easy way to do so. Make no mistake though he's an unwitting (to put it charitably) pawn of the forces of the world who seek to silence the Christian claim in public. Because without it, people can be easily controlled with the substitutes mentioned above. With Him though, there is no such captivity. Which is what makes the powers that be very afraid.
Back in 1966, I had a drill Sergeant tell me that he believed chapels would be banned from military bases in his life time. He was not happy about it.
