I admire Fr. Fessio's creativity. The price seems a little steep ($899 per fully-installed 8x5 garden: that's more than $20 per square foot) --- BUT if it yields $9 a day's-worth of veggies over a 100 day growing/ harvesting season, it pays for itself, and it seems the next year's costs would be far less.
And a hundred days' harvesting, if you're starting with all the plants "installed," seems actually possible. Many, many greens are "cut-and-come-again," and all plantings can be staggered for extended harvest. A hundred days of harvest doesn't seem out of reach for Palo Alto CA.
I'm going over to the http://nanofarms.com/ website and check out the details.
It looks very professional. I really hope it works.
Greeneyes, want to ping?
Are they going to have water next year for those gardens? I wonder.
I suppose for folks who make $200/hr this might make sense. I’ll just use my free time nights and weekends.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
Good info. Why don’t you go ahead and link it to the Weekly thread, and help me remember to include the link when I ping on Friday? Thanks.
