Bristol Palin and fiancé Dakota Meyer are calling off their wedding, which was set to take place this weekend.
Former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced the cancellation of her daughter’s nuptials in a Monday Facebook post, writing the couple has “informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held.”
Palin wrote that, although it won’t be a walk down the aisle, a shindig of some sort will still go on: “Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway — and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at ‘the old Kentucky home’ on May 23 to celebrate life, in general!” Bristol Palin, a 24-year-old former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant and mom to 6-year-old Tripp, had announced her engagement to Meyer, a Marine and Medal of Honor recipient, back in March.
Recently, the pair had been dogged by a tabloid report claiming Meyer had a “secret wife” whom he had married as a teen and subsequently divorced.

By the way, the other “celebrity” that you insulted is the Governor and the vice presidential candidate, and conservative leader and tea party hero that gave us Ted Cruz and dozens and dozens of other conservative politicians.
Since the governor’s business is conservatism, politics and fighting for America, let’s get more of it, and so far Bristol seems the one most like her mother in that regard.

As for her activism or being a spokeswoman for anything...I've not seen nor heard one way or another if she's been successful or not....she doesn't seem to stick with anything very long.
I was rooting for McCain to pick Palin for veep back in 2008, and have been a lont-time supporter of the Guv. She’s incredibly talented and the Dems were right in seeing her as a threat to demolish.
I do think it is unfortunate that she didn’t go at least in a serious wonk direction and build up her credentials by, for example, joining a think tank to cover international energy policies and politics. That would have been perfect, getting international cred while playing up the bookish side of her persona.
She has been a great help, obviously, in boosting tea party candidates—even though most of them have flipped to the Establishment once in office.
But I think she’s hurt her own chances to reach the big office by playing into almost a caricature of the pro-gun, working Joe, Christian conservative world. Her credentials there were fine already—what she needed to do was reassure Coastal and culturally upscale voters of her credibility and understanding of their concerns.
The reality shows that Sarah, Todd, and Bristol have done have just been tacky. Popular with her base, I presume, but not the sort of thing to break the SNL parody image that she’s been branded with—instead they’ve just played into it.
Bristol actually doesn’t have her mom’s natural charisma, which is part of why her reality show was a flop. Her natural looks were about average, though she’s have a fair amount of work done. And, I just think it was a bad idea to have a teenage single mother, despite her own famous mother, as an abstinence spokesperson.
All this running tabloid stuff around Bristol, though it’s made her a few dollars, has probably been very costly as far as her mother’s future political prospects are concerned—and I think that is unfortunate.
Right a national spokeswoman for life and abstinence.
It is a mystery to me why you despise her so bitterly, and want to rage against her so much, because it seems to be without grounds, but your passion to do so is without question.

I've never seen Bristol on the national stage for anything other than purely entertainment.....so I can't say she's what one would call a “National Spokeswoman”. But apparently if you say then it's so, I'd imagine.
What has been tacky about the shows that the family has done?
I thought that they were nature shows about Alaska, and that Bristol’s was seen as a conservative show.
I’m defending an innocent person and the Palins, you are attacking her for no good reason, you even spit on her pro-life work that brought her into the lime light.
For me, it became difficult to take Palin serious as a world leader, I was wavering when she resigned as Governor, but I hoped she had loftier plans, like a Senate run. The moment she had Kate Gosselin as guest on her Alaska reality show, she lost me and I realized she didn’t have a loftier plan.

It wasn’t “her” Alaska reality show, it was the network’s show.
The network expects to profit from those shows, so it mixes in other elements.

Yep, even so-called “conservatives” join in to malign and bad-mouth a young lady who was trashed to the ends of the earth by the vile liberal media in 2008, and utilized the resulting fame to speak up for pro-life and other conservative causes on tv and the internet; A young lady who is also the daughter of one of the only consistent conservative voices out there who went above and beyond the call of duty to combat Obama and his minion’s vile agenda for America. Someone who hasn’t done a bloomin’ thing to merit such scorn.
Any wonder why I’ve basically given up on this damned country?
Of course it was her show—created for her and she made money from it. And no, of course as well she herself didn’t produce and run the whole thing.
Toespi just gave a good example: having Kate Gosselin on it. But none of the Palin shows hit middlebrow, let alone highbrow. Just not good for building a presidential brand.
