Federal officials this weekend revealed the train that crashed Tuesday, killing 8, was one of two struck by objects that day.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility the doomed train's windshield was struck in the moments before the crash.
Amtrak, meanwhile, has been ordered to expand speed-restriction system in area of derailment in Philadelphia.
NTSB investigators, however, said Sunday that no communication from the train indicated it had been hit by an object.

EPTA, Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, said there's no indication the object that hit the commuter rail train is related to the Amtrak derailment.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Friday reports of an unknown projectile 'had nothing to do' with the deadly crash.

maybe you go faster on the straight section and only slow down at the curves. (got hit and in shock didn’t slow down and accelerated) Acceleration rates for electric trains are pretty hefty. after all the track is mostly straight.
also a driver was decapitated from a flywheel coming off a tow truck on 95 in chester from the opposing lane.
It’s fairly straight most of the way from about the zoo to the curve. past the north philly station. Read about how fast the trains can accelerate. amazing.
IMHO trains go fact on straight sections and only slow down on curves. If you are going straight at a curve and are maybe distracted you don’t slow down in time. he would have normally been slowing down just north of the north philly station. it’s not that far from the reported attacks. Keep in mind attacks on trains happen on any given day.
Large dent with scratches. A stress crack where it is bolted to the frame. Four cracks from objects.
Wow! Gruesome!
Affirmative sir. Exactly what they are doing. If the engineer was a white male, Christian, heterosexual, and the circumstances were exactly the same, the scum bags in the MSM would be blaming him.
Tomorrows headline: Bullets cause trains to de-rail, immediate confiscation of all guns. /s
Never let a good crisis go to waste to tie it to guns and crush second amendment rights.
I’m surprised nobody has hypothesized kids may have placed 2 pennies on the track near the curve, thereby causing the debaucle.
You are very correct and knowledgeable of train jargon. The rails are sitting on a bed called ballast, or to the unwashed, rocks. In a crash of this sort, rock are flying everywhere in addition to kids picking them up and throwing them.
Remember how kids started being fascinated with throwing objects onto cars from freeway overpasses?
Still, the picture posted shows no signs of a bullet impact. Nothing went through. Something did impact it but there are a whole lot of rocks that were displaced when it went off the tracks, in addition to a lot of other things like structural steel catenary structures.
I’ve seen a few vehicles impacted by objects that hit the windscreen. Know what happens, they stopped.
Once again - a potential issue but irrelevant to the crash.
The continuing cover for the mental disease called Queer Derangement Syndrome (QDS).
I’m surprised they haven’t said a UFO was sitting on the tracks and he attempted to run over it since he had mo time to brake so he just punched the gas
That one is coming next.
> Here is an interesting article that addresses accident rates of homos.
Thry will defimitely not like that article. Too musch truth in it.
And maybe the train had underinflated tires. Geez.
Doesn’t explain why he was speeding...
These trains don’t accelerate that fast. IIRC, someone had posted the acceleration rate for these Amtrak engines. I think it took 3 or 4 minutes to reach something near this speed (106) from a dead stop, probably at least a minute, maybe more to get there from the 70MPH limit in the section before the curve.
