Authorities: Wendy's worker takes unattended ambulance on a liquor run

A fast-food worker took an idling ambulance for a short joyride from the Paris Pike Wendy's to the Connector Road Marathon station before being arrested Thursday night, authorities said.

...

Georgetown-Scott County Emergency Medical Services Director Dave Sloane said an ambulance crew had stopped for dinner at Wendy's and left the ambulance idling.

Ambulance crews frequently leave their vehicles idling while on break to maintain equipment that cools medications, Sloane said.

They received a dispatch call, he said, and when they came out, the ambulance was gone.

"One of the (restaurant's) employees decided to go for a ride in it," Sloane said.

Wendy's officials later told Georgetown Police Hughes had been sent home because she appeared to be impaired, Swanigan said.

After taking the ambulance, she drove to the Bluegrass Liquor Box on Lawson Drive, where she attempted to purchase Fireball whiskey, and also struck an awning at the store with the ambulance as she attempted to use the drive-through, he said.

That statement is very applicable here.

Here’s a scary thought: She may still not have realized it.

>>>What did Wendy’s do to warrant any attachment to this crime?<<<

They sent her home, suspecting she was impaired, instead of having the ambulance crew check her out.

They also didn’t slap a “DANGER! Impaired brain in control” sticker on her forehead.

They have the deep pockets, in case any ambulance chaser (HAH! I slay me!) materializes

I think those are what an attorney will key on.

IMO Wendy’s only obligation was to get that person out of their restaurant.

What people get themselves into, they should get themselves out of. Wendy’s didn’t have an obligation to get squared away.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, because we both know what attorney’s will try to do here.
