As a martial arts/firearms instructor, Im often asked what constitutes the best gun for a survival situation. My stock answer is, A good .357 Magnum stainless steel revolver with a 4-inch barrel. However, when asked this question at other times, Ill simply tell the person that the gun they are carrying is the best because its what they are carrying at the time they might need it.
But really, when it comes to the .357 Magnum, there isnt a better gun/ammo combination anyone could ask for in an all-around best gun set-up. I dont make this statement lightly, either. The .357 Magnum round in a good, solid, stainless steel revolver can put meat on the table or save your bacon if need be.

3” K frame Smith (Model 13?). Loud, but Oh My!
The GP 100 I posted about down thread did that one time. But, sadly...
5.56mm
10mm Stainless Colt Delta Elite is fun. Also a 10in TC Contender in 10mm Mag.
I cant take it anymore. I’ve looked up the NYC/USSR gun laws and it looks like you can own in your own home. Anyone know more about this?
I am going to apply for home permit.
Ammo has almost become a liability for a .22. The great Obama ammo shortage still hasn’t ended for .22.
When I was six, the first handgun I fired was my dads 1969 colt python 6”. Of course it was loaded with .38 special that he reloaded himself. I myself have a 4” stainless S&W 686p. It’s a great .357.
If I were you, sir, and I had the means available to do so, I would find a freedom-loving state to move to. If that is not an option, then I wish you well, sir.
If I ever buy a revolver it will be a Colt Python.
I'm not even sure how many I own.
I have two .357s a Ruger SP 101 3”-5 and a S&W 686 6”-6 with speed loaders for both. I usually carry the Ruger on a belt holster but sometimes carry the S&W in a shoulder holster. The S&W has Rosewood, checkered combat grips and the Ruger has Hogue, Sao Paulo, checkered Combat grips. These are not for sale or trade, they will either be passed on or buried with me.
There are some nice .357 rifles available. Not one thing wrong about a rifle and and a sidearm, using the same ammo.
Beautiful gun and fun to shoot. Prices went to the moon, though.
LOL! Sounds like time for inventory.
Hmmm. So depending on where you live, would there need to be an FFL initiated transfer required if they’re buried with you? :>}
It’s not an option until the better half’s mom buys the farm. Then it DEFINITELY is an option.
>>... far more accurate and reliable than I ever will be. Im guessing you mean on the days it sneaks out of the house on its own for a day a the range?
No. I think that means that if the gun misses, he is willing to admit that it is his fault. I know a lot of people who have sights that move randomly and barrels that wiggle a lot, but then settle down and behave when someone else shoots it.
I’ve got a 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk .357 from the 50’s in mint condition.
LOL! See it was all the guns fault. Stupid guns. Now if I had a smart gun, every shot would be in the bulls eye. And it would pick up all the spent brass at the end of the session. Or is that an obedient gun?
I daily carry my Dan Wesson with the snubbie.
