An El Niño pattern has been contributing to drought-busting rain in Texas and the southern Plains. California may be next up for much-needed rain during the winter of 2015-16.
El Niño, which began during the past winter, occurs when ocean water temperatures climb above normal across the central and eastern Pacific, centered around the equator.
According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Ben Noll, along with impacting weather patterns around the globe, an El Niño tends to bring significant rain to the southern part of the United States.
"The pattern of El Niño strengthens the southern storm track across the U.S., especially during the winter, spring and autumn months of the year," Noll said.
How stormy the pattern becomes is generally associated with the strength of El Niño. . .

Texas Flood - Steve Ray Vaughan
Well there’s floodin’ down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
Well there’s floodin’ down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
And I’ve been tryin’ to call my baby
Lord and I can’t get a single sound
Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain
Well dark clouds are rollin’ in
Man I’m standin’ out in the rain
Yeah flood water keep a rollin’
Man it’s about to drive poor me insane
Well I’m leavin’ you baby
Lord and I’m goin’ back home to stay
Well I’m leavin’ you baby
Lord and I’m goin’ back home to stay
Well back home are no floods or tornados
Baby and the sun shines every day
Winter 2015 is a long way away, my apple tree did not bloom this year first time in 10 years
Who knows if it'll stick around for next winter.
So, if I may paraphrase:
It’s flooding in Texas and the telephone lines are down so he can’t reach his girlfriend. It’s driving him nuts so he’s leaving her and moving somewhere where the sun shines more (than Texas).
This is why I can’t write songs. I don’t like repeating myself. :-)
We got a “record” 1.64 inches here in San Diego yesterday.
It was the storm of the century.
Rained cats and dogs last night at our house in Fresno. Five miles west....nada.
I fear if we have a good rain everyone will forget about water management, an issue that must be addressed. With their tiny little attention spans, our legislators will be moving on to something of less import. Like getting their sorry asses reelected.
Our cherry try did not have any blossoms either!
You realize that Elmore James blue classic song right?? LOL!
Sacramento hasn’t been addressing the issue properly, anyway. No additional storage options, no emphasis on desal. Governor Moonbeam is more interested in his TrainToNowhere...
You realize in certain poiitlcal circle they called Crazy train right like Ozzy Osbourne song
If this keeps up(in TEXAS) and they say it will, for a few weeks, I’ll have a bumper crop of PECANS this year. Last 3 years, hardly none, cause of the drought.
After they measure the heavy rain we received in San Diego this morning we will be very close to our normal 10 inches of rain for the season.
We had a bumper crop this last fall. Pecans usually produce well every third year no matter what.
There is only one thing that can solve the water crisis. Get Diane Feinstein's husband a cut of any deal to build a dam or desalinization plant. Right now he only gets a cut of the railroad, which is why the railroad takes priority over water.
Good for you! and Praise the Lord!
Snowboard season should be pretty awesome this year....
