In a burst of bipartisanship, the Republican-controlled Senate put President Obama's trade agenda back on course on Thursday, clearing the way for likely approval within days for legislation allowing the administration to negotiate global deals that Congress could support or reject but not change.
The 65-33 vote to resurrect the measure capped two days of political intrigue in which Democrats on both sides of the legislation initially joined forces to block action, then reached agreement with Republicans for votes on other enforcement measures to protect workers who lose jobs as a result of exports.

[In a burst of bipartisanship]
Is Shep Smith smiling today?
Remember the “Great Wall St Bailout” that four generations of Americans will be required to pay for, that many conservatives in Congress initially proclaimed they would not support? It was when the Tea Party was created and when I joined FR.
It is all theater to keep the common folk (i.e. subjects) initially content while both Parties colluded against the interests of the nation.
If we don’t get big money out of politics, we the people will not have a country of citizens, we will become a nation of serfs. Follow the money in DC and it is no different than the Mexican mob or the Mafia. Every right we have from gun control to freedom of speech is being eroded away by those who want the citizens muzzled and disarmed etc.
My Gawd, these people are hopeless...
Just vote GOP-e and they will fix everything! /s
Cruz voted YES, as did Lee, Paul, Sessions, and the rest.
They really need to give the donor base the ability to import more workers to suppress wage inflation. This is what their donors paid for.
Strike one.
The GOP stabs conservatives in the back — AGAIN. Why should this surprise anyone?
McConnell is just sitting in the driver’s seat while the Dems decide where the car is going. Boehner is too drunk to drive.
Oh yes, we must vote for the Republican because any Republican is at least better than the best Democrat and the third party actual conservative will never win. Well.... I don’t see any dingdang difference. Do you?
Hidden in the hidden recesses of the hidden agreement is further hidden an amnesty proposal.
I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise. I figured a week, it took 2 days.
Point of clarification. Is a “burst of bipartisanship” the same as “an eruption of syphillis”, or is it more along the lines of “an explosion of buggery”?
Inquiring FReepers want to know.
Well as long as that type has a home on FR with clear skies and no lightning, we can’t very well blame them for pushing the liberalism they believe in.
Sad truth, but it IS the truth.
Its a one party system. Its like putin handing power to medvedev, and them handing it back forth. For eternity.
Money won’t hurt them. The chamber of crony capitalists will fully fund the uniparty.
The gop or the rats aren’t the problem.
There is ample evidence that elections are a suckers bet that caesar always wins. Yet we persist in the myth that elections matter and that we have some say in what caesar does.
Youll never hear any of the GOPES (government over the people {Republican} elite statists) ever dare say why everything that comes out from this regime is a lie or call them the godless, because they kicked God out in 2012 ,Suggest they’re a democrat in name only party. Or even speculate why democrats lie so much is because they dont believe there is such a thing as sin.
Why ? Because its not being bi-partisan.
"Governments...derive their just powers from the CONSENT of the governed."
Seems to me, ultimately, we CONSENT to it, and so it's OUR fault. When we stop consenting, it all falls apart. Problem is, to stop consenting means far too much sacrifice. Stop consenting, and you'll have to give up that salary, the mortgage, the car, the toys, the booze AND the TV to watch the game on. Why would we sacrifice that stuff?
