(CBSNews) An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old autistic girl was kicked off a flight this week for what the airline calls a disruptive situation.
The family calls it an outrage.
Video shot by a fellow passenger and posted to YouTube showed Salt Lake City airport police removing the family from a United Airlines flight last Tuesday, after the pilot made an emergency landing.
The girls mother, Donna Beegle, was shocked when officers explained why.
He said, Well, the captain doesnt feel comfortable flying to Portland with your daughter on his flight, Beegle told CBS News.
The trouble began halfway through the flight from Houston to Portland. Beegle says her daughter, Juliette, was hungry and started to act up.
I know her. When she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles, Beegle described.
Her mother says Juliette is a picky eater, so she asked a flight attendant if she could purchase a hot meal from first class and says she was told no.
Well, I said, How about we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she is crying and tries to scratch and then youll want to help her,' Beegle said she told the flight attendant.
Beegle eventually got the meal and said Juliette calmed down. Then came an announcement from the captain.
We were shocked to hear them say, Were going to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, we have a passenger in the back of the plane who has behavior issues,' Beegle said.

You may have a different deal with Him, but me I'm allowed
to have opinions which spring from the mind He gave me.
God made me, God programmed my mind and I think she's a little princess that could have been compelled into compliance.
Did I mean "smacked"?
Why yes. Yes I did.
In Jesus name.
So basically.. we're looking at at a solicitation issue..
trying to "purchase" "something hot" for the daughter?
Very good.
So understanding of you. Maybe she should have packed a microwave because her kid likes warm food
Because you can’t take snacks through security, maybe? But I’d think there’d be a special request section of the reservations screen to indicate a child with special needs. They could have explained this to the gate clerk as well.
Yeah...sometimes a mom has to advocate for her kid when they are in the middle of a flight. Maybe you can travel to Oregon and kick Juliett in the mouth so she will remember next time to not act up.
It seems that you have a predisposition to violence. Is that why you defend this family?
God Forbid that anyone gets in your way when you want to kick a 15 yr old disabled girls ass and throw her mom into prison. Maybe next week you can travel to a school for the disabled and kick them all in the teeth for being "retarded"
So as a Christian I am going to call you out as blaspheming in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus would NEVER allow you to name Him for the right to smack a disabled girl or as you say "compel into compliance". How dare you bring Jesus Christ into your sick fantasy of smacking a distressed disabled little girl???
What a textbook example of blackmail. Do exactly what I say and everyone survives the flight, as opposed to deny my requests and people don't get home safe.
Also, I don't understand why you constantly call the male flight attendant prissy. The vast majority are hetero married family men working hard to feed their families.
haha just kidding
But you knew that.
Actually, I thought I was learning some secret technique from an industry insider. Like a blanket party, I imagined.
Why do we tolerate this kind of post? I have been on this site for many years but to have men say that Jesus is speaking/programming their mind for them to "smack a 15 year old autistic girl into compliance" is beyond disturbing.
God help us if this country is ever attacked again.
That means train that brat not to act up on an airplane.
There you have Humblegunner's words of wisdom. Oh and make sure you smack the girl with autism in the mouth if she dares to get upset
Are you completely unaware of the existence of insulated lunch bags/containers that keep food warm? More importantly, is she?
They were coming back from vacation from Disney in FL. Layover in TX and onto Or. Can you imagine that a mom many ask for a special request when she sees her daughter’s blood sugar dropping on a flight. Maybe you can’t but most reasonable people can imagine a special circumstance on a long flight
Sounds like the girl wouldn’t eat with her family at the airport, refused snacks her mom brought, refused the sandwich they gave her on plane, and then it got to this point.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I’m sure the airline would have considered her request - allowing her to bring snacks for her own child.
I know they do make exceptions .. you just have to contact them and explain the situation. If they wouldn’t meet her request .. then why not take another airline (if possible). Sometimes that’s what it takes for airlines to get the message.
