(CBSNews) An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old autistic girl was kicked off a flight this week for what the airline calls a disruptive situation.
The family calls it an outrage.
Video shot by a fellow passenger and posted to YouTube showed Salt Lake City airport police removing the family from a United Airlines flight last Tuesday, after the pilot made an emergency landing.
The girls mother, Donna Beegle, was shocked when officers explained why.
He said, Well, the captain doesnt feel comfortable flying to Portland with your daughter on his flight, Beegle told CBS News.
The trouble began halfway through the flight from Houston to Portland. Beegle says her daughter, Juliette, was hungry and started to act up.
I know her. When she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles, Beegle described.
Her mother says Juliette is a picky eater, so she asked a flight attendant if she could purchase a hot meal from first class and says she was told no.
Well, I said, How about we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she is crying and tries to scratch and then youll want to help her,' Beegle said she told the flight attendant.
Beegle eventually got the meal and said Juliette calmed down. Then came an announcement from the captain.
We were shocked to hear them say, Were going to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, we have a passenger in the back of the plane who has behavior issues,' Beegle said.

But you knew that.
So...your husband, after hearing the flight attendant say they couldn't spare a first class meal, would have barged into an area of the plane where he had no business, and taken the meal on his own? Really?
Then he'd have been tossed off, too, and no doubt you'd be complaining about the unfairness of it all.
I have trouble believing they have just “enough” and don’t bring an extra to feed the crew and or spillage, that alone could have fed this teen. Freeper-airline staff more familiar with logistics in the cabin area, feel free to inform us...
Then that jackwagon would have rightfully been taken down and restrained.
One does NOT attempt to take over any aspect of an aircraft in flight.
I'd kick him in the head, too.. just for being a dumbass.
That was kinda my thought... fortunately your eloquence renders my pitiable reply unnecessary.
They bring enough for First Class and the aircrew.
I’m not airline staff ... just an entirely too frequent flyer.
They frequently run out of food.
I’m not surprised.
Unused meals cost money.
Yeah no big deal when a plane loaded with people makes an unscheduled landing due to a hungry crying 15 yr old girl and it is boarded with paramedics and police. I am sure the FFA thinks this is just business as usual. Maybe the pilot needs to take charge of the situation rather than let an irritated male flight attendant who wants to hoard 1st class meals cry wolf
Don't let them fool you, I got into the cargo hold of a Southwest flight between Albuquerque and Salt Lake City, and this is what I found.
Dangit!
You weren’t supposed to tell!!!
No big deal, safety-wise, when all systems are operating normally.
It is a big deal administratively (not affecting safety which was the point of your post).
The PIC acted correctly and did not, as you stated, place the aircraft in any danger by doing so.
I love cheese.
The also had a buffet. I always knew the Southwest peanut thing was nothing but a thinly veiled eugenics project to wipe out all the genetically flawed peanut allergy children and improve the human race.
It was guarded by a moose.
I have a sister.
are belong to us.
:)
Ignore my post where I asked for your time and type ratings as it is clear you don't have any so your comments regarding the PIC actions are uninformed.
Shut up!
My child will scratch your sister if she doesn’t get a pizza!
and will TAKE THIS PLANE DOWN!
She’s got a boxcutter! You hear me?
HOT Pizza! Or a Schlotzki’s or something!
You hear me?
I hear you, dear. :)
