First Lady Michelle Obama urged students at Tuskegee University, a historically black university in Alabama, to remain involved in civic life during a time of tension regarding race relations across the country.
At the school's commencement address, the First Lady listed scenarios in which African-Americans feel they encounter systemic discrimination, such as "nagging worries that you're going to get stopped or pulled over for absolutely no reason." She said those feelings are "real," but disengaging is not an option.
"I want to be very clear that those feelings are not an excuse to just throw up our hands and give up. Not an excuse. They are not an excuse to lose hope. To succumb to feelings of despair and anger only means that in the end, we lose," Obama said.

Obama noted that events like those in Baltimore and Ferguson have generated feelings of futility amongst black men and women who believe the institutions of civil society aren't designed to protect or represent them.
"They're rooted in decades of structural challenges that have made too many folks feel frustrated and invisible. And those feelings are playing out in communities like Baltimore and Ferguson and so many others across this country," she said.
Obama pressed the students to vote to ensure those institutional systems work more equitably.
"The first thing we have to do is vote. Hey, no, not just once in a while. Not just when my husband or somebody you like is on the ballot. But in every election at every level, all of the time,"

... if only ... inclusive of the Mooch and her constant angry, nasty, ignorant contribution to the national discourse
Fifty plus years of racist discrimination for blacks. School admissions. Scholarships and grants. Automatic passing grades. Job hiring. Promotions. All sorts of freebies and special favors based on black race. Trillions of free mr eh in dozens of giveaway programs. If Michelle doesn’t feel good yet perhaps she’s in way over her head and should take her mommy and move out of the White House. She’s an embarrassment there anyway the way she behaves
I’d say 2017 can’t come soon enough but by then she may not be stepping down or we’ll have something worse.
Michell grew up near the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, a wonderful place for a child to learn and get ideas. I’m sure she would have been welcomed there, THere were no museums or concert halls in her neighborhood that would have turned her away. It was not dangerous for children then. Lots of opportunities for dhildren who wanted to learn in that neighborhood at that time.
Will I get in trouble if I say “They’re only invisible in the dark...as long as they don’t smile.”
Two of the biggest racists and race baiters in the country live in that big white mansion on Penns Ave. The sooner those two pick a city and join a country club, the better.
“We .... “ “we .... “ “ .... we .... “
Several times she said “we.”
To her it is us against them. She is a vile racist pig.
Imagine if a white first lady had said “we” referring to just whites. That person would be considered a racist.
I didn’t recall her and her sorry azz husband being elected to serve just blacks. They’re supposed to serve all Americans.
They’re so blinded by their racism they cannot see it.
If only Michelle would disappear.
Yeah - tell it to Michael Jordan, Denzel Washington and Oprah - see, I don’t even have to give her last name.......
Great post/commentary. Thanks SkyPilot.
“...in the end, we lose.”
Wow - how divisive and how racist. And this is supposed to be the First Lady of the United States?
[Moochelle] noted that events like those in Baltimore and Ferguson have generated feelings of futility amongst black men and women who believe the institutions of civil society aren't designed to protect or represent them.Oh, that explains why the riots were based on lies, overreactions, and demagoguery. Wait, no it doesn't! The rioters haven't been punished -- that's the only thing generating feelings of futility, and not among black men and women for the most part.
I wish you were invisible, MO.
Because they don’t like museums?
Blacks invisible?
I guess Moochie never watched an NFL game or checked the NBA team rosters.
Or watched most TV shows or a movie or TV commercials.
Or been to a drivers license office or almost any other goverbment bureaucracy.
They are everywhere and in numbers way above their proportion of the population.
WEll, here ya go....
Make this go viral = post everywhere - day after day.
