No, your ability to speak your mind freely becomes limited.
You need to pick your battles very carefully, especially if you are the "Known" conservative. My Co-workers knew I was a hard core conservative even though and maybe because I never piled on when they were bashing Republicans. I never said anything. I just listened and waited for the opportunity to interject my comments when I knew my comments would make a difference in their thinking.
Most of them have no idea why they believe what they are saying. If you can be very very reserved and avoid superficial political battles, your co-workers will think you are really smart. So when you do speak up, your words will carry more weight. When you do interject an opposing view you better know what your talking about.
