Team McConnell isn’t about to just let Matt Bevin become governor
washingtonpost.com ^ | 5/7/15 | Aaron Blanke

Businessman Matt Bevin is the guy some see moving up in the Kentucky GOP governor's primary. Bevin also challenged now-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in a primary last year.

These two things are not distinct from one another. Now that Bevin's chances appear to be on the rise in the May 19 primary (thanks to Agriculture Commissioner James Comer's problems), here comes Team McConnell to knock him down a peg or two.

And boy do they. Here is top McConnell aide Josh Holmes on Bevin in a new Lousiville Courier-Journal story:

Josh Holmes, McConnell's former chief of staff and an adviser to his campaign, was even more critical, saying that Bevin can't be trusted and is essentially running to satisfy his ego.

"If Matt Bevin had moved to a state where he had a better shot at being elected to office as a Democrat, he would articulate the values of liberalism with the same conviction he now talks about conservatism," Holmes said in a statement.

"It's abundantly clear that his guiding light is to embrace whatever gets himself a little further down the road," he said. "If somehow Matt Bevin got into the governor's mansion his only agenda would be the commissioning of his portrait."

Ouch.

They grow silent because they are weak and scared,so they do the same thing over and over again, vote GOPe.

And their dwindling disciples try using the shopworn old techniques here on FreeRepublic to rally the troops and fight off the burgeoning opposition. It isn't working; kind of sad, actually.

By what merit is McConnell a conservative? He is as much a usurper as BO

Maybe I missed it but I never read anyone supporting McConnell. I said with others that nothing justified voting for a Democrat and I stand by that. But I also said and still say that I wouldn’t vote for him either. Apparently not enough conservatives agreed with that or he wouldn’t still be in office. I feel certain there’s enough conservative support that if it were truly held back, their numbers would be enough to defeat these guys.

Lesser evil is evil.

Is lukewarm ness and allowing , enabling evil less evil?

This congress allowed all of this mess.

Are they really less evil?

I made it all the way to my voting place, voted one by one and did not vote for my ‘republican’ senator I left it blank

I’ll do that in the pres election if they put jeb or anyone like that in

I’m saying this in case they’re reading

BO is not the greater evil tram Romney if all of this comes to our getting rid of the lobs altogether. Romney would have allowed all of this maybe not the ME fiasco

And ushered in Hillary a la Bush I vis Clinton I

I voted for Romney. But we are not going there any more Won’t do it again

Going forward, anyone that can possibly use the words ‘lesser evil’ in anything but a sarcastic or disgusted comment is every bit the liberal garbage any democrat is. And every bit a danger to what America once stood for.

Lesser evil voting destroyed America. We are all guilty at some level. You drew your line here, I drew mine after MCCain/Palin. But NO ONE has any excuse after these last two elections.

No one had to vote Dem. they could have written anyone on the planet in. They instead elected Mitch and thus doomed us all.

Anyone McConnell is against should be considered carefully as someone likely to be worthy of support. If Bevin will give McConnell heartburn for four years by being in the governor’s mansion, I’m all in.

I suspect McConnell’s main worry is a conservative getting an important foothold in the state party apparatus. And if Bevin is elected governor, due to the bitter Bevin/McConnell primary battle last year I’m sure McConnell feels he’s not going to be able to coopt Bevin the way he has coopted Rand.

“”If Matt Bevin had moved to a state where he had a better shot at being elected to office as a Democrat, he would articulate the values of liberalism with the same conviction he now talks about conservatism,” Holmes said in a statement.”

Sounds like he’s taking about McConnell, someone whose following the campaign money.
