More secular confusion about the moons former magnetic field
by D. Russell Humphreys
A recent paper by Clèment Suavet et al.1 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that uniformitarian scientists, who assume the world is billions of years old, are still very puzzled about the moons magnetic field. They dont understand why it was formerly strong but now doesnt exist, and how it could exist in the first place.2
The moons magnetic data fit creation science theories very well. Suavet and his colleagues have carefully analyzed the magnetism of two basalt samples brought from the moon by Apollo 11 astronauts (figure 1). The rocks became magnetized in an ancient magnetic field of about 0.69 (±0.16) Gauss. Thats a bit stronger than the earths magnetic field today (0.6 Gauss at the poles, 0.3 Gauss at the equator). They cite a very conservative lower limit for the moon rocks magnetizing field strength of 0.13 Gauss, but I dont see the need for such caution, except perhaps to mollify colleagues who want the moons early field to be weaker.

Figure 1. In 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts (Buzz Aldrin shown here) collected moon-surface basalt samples which turned out to have been magnetized in a magnetic field that was about as strong as earths.
I’m not a scientist. The article talks about “ranging from nearly 4 Ga ago to 3.7 Ga ago.”
I am clueless, the article doesn’t teach us lay people what this ‘Ga’ unit is at all.
That’s an abbreviation geologists use which means “billion years”.
(thank you, thank you very much!)
Gauss is a measure of a magnetic field. It measures the magnetic flux density of the field at a particular point in space.
Lol.

By the way both Mars and Mercury had magnetic fields that disappeared due to changes in the planetary cores.
The other day I tried to help my son with a science report. The question was: “Why do chicken wing bones and frog front leg bones have the same bone structure as human arm bones?”
Being a middle school science project, I was sure they were looking for an evolution answer. But I tried to search the web to find a theological answer that made sense.
There were only two lines of answers on the web. The 100% Darwin Evolution answer and the God made chickens in man’s likeness 5000 years ago answer.
I don’t think I subscribe to either one of those answers. So as not to look completely ridiculous, I suggested he just go with the one answer that he could get a good grade with.
I’m not sure what faiths still believe in the “God created the Heavens and the Earth in seven days - 5000 years ago” concept but I think that is past its prime.
” God made chickens in mans likeness “
Can get from concept to production quicker if you use common design components.
It is a standard unit of measure:
1 Ga unit = Richard Simmons
2 Ga units = Algore
3 Ga units = Obama
It als has this meaning: Gigaannum or Ga, a unit of time equal to 1,000,000,000 (one billion) years.
Let the battle begin.
I think that school needs a real talking to.
“There were only two lines of answers on the web. The 100% Darwin Evolution answer and the God made chickens in mans likeness 5000 years ago answer.”
Actually the mechanics of both answers are basically the same: because that is the most efficient design for a wide variety of front limbs.
The difference is the reasoning behind that. Evolutionists believe that the design derived from a common ancestor, and was preserved in most species because those species never developed another design that was more efficient. Creationists believe the design derives from a common designer, who re-used an efficient design in many of his creations.
Ga = "giga-annum" - billions of years. A mythological unit of time not much different from the "in illo tempore" (once upon a time) of the fairy tales.
The school didn’t suggest the 5000 years ago answer.
That was just the only “non-evolution” answer I could find on the web.
There are a LOT of fundamentalist sites on the web that repeat the literal Biblical creation concepts but I couldn’t find any smartly written explanations of intelligent design on the web.
Perhaps the last chapter of Asimov’s “Foundation and Earth” where the robot R. Daneel Olivaw is found to have been manipulating the goings on of humanity from a base on the Moon for eons wasn’t actually fiction? :-)
“Actually the mechanics of both answers are basically the same: because that is the most efficient design for a wide variety of front limbs.”
Bats are have more efficient ‘wings’ than birds. Why did birds get feathers and bats not?
(1) They evolved that way by chance;
(2) GM made Aveos in Escalade's likeness;
...
...
...
(3) The designers found that a similar structure would perform a similar function in two very dissimilar forms.
As for the timeline, I differ with my YEC brethren on the universal scale but find the idea of the bulk of organic terrestrial creation being <10K years to be well within reason. BTW even for the YEC 6K years is the lower limit, generally; most agree that 5K years ago post-diluvian history was well underway with the Egyptians and the inhabitants of the Salisbury Plain already putting up stone monuments of one kind or another.
“Bats are have more efficient wings than birds.”
Umm, bats are gliders and birds are true fliers, so you can’t make a direct comparison of the efficiency of design, as the wings are designed for different purposes.
How can ‘one billion years’ be a mythological unit of time?
Even if you argue that the Universe is not that old do keep in mind that God is Eternal and Immemorial and that God has always existed.
He existed one billion years ago and He existed a billion billion years ago. He will exist into time beyond our comprehension or our ability to measure.
For our God one billion years is not mythological, it is but a footnote.
