Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill
TheRightscoop ^ | 5/7/2015 | RightScoop

Posted on 05/07/2015 3:55:30 PM PDT by gwgn02

Cruz- “This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority – if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment – then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

“I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.”

No excuse, Ted. You screwed the pooch on this one. Should have stood with Cotton. He stood with you.

You go for it. You weren't going to vote for Cruz anyway.

I'll keep sending him money. That's going to matter, and I'm ok with an imperfect candidate that is actually a conservative.

Romney was a liberal, and there isn't any way to get away from that stench.

To my mind this is good news.

If Ted was a pretend conservative like Tom Delay he would do only those things that made him look like a true blue conservative to unsophisticated voters.

Ted is choosing the least worst option left for him by the GOPe even though some less sophisticated conservatives might consider him a traitor for doing so.

Maybe Ted is the real deal.

Still I wish he hadn't gotten into bed with Norquist and signed his stupid pledge.

He is a threat to the RINOs. He has to be taken out, or at least neutralized. And who to do it better than pseudo Conservatives. They have to grease the skids for Jeb.

Myself, I will either check the box across from Ted's name, or write in his name opposite of "other". The Republican Party can nominate whom they please.

I guess I get it. I don’t know. Cruz probably has information we never see.

I’m chalking it up to “Doesn’t matter anyway” because the GOP has a mission and one Senator isn’t going to stop it. I think it was a mistake but only for the optics. On substance it doesn’t matter at all. This won’t be a close vote.

You argue that every vote, “doesn’t matter.” Of course, because Democrats control Congress. We should just let Obama do everything he wants. Oh wait., he does. But if we just keep giving him what he wants, that will show him.

Right. The Cruz-Toomey amendment was not adopted leaving only this as a way of slowing down or stopping a bad deal.

I think Cotton’s stance is strong and I applaud it, but Cruz and Cotton are in totally different political realities right now. Cotton isn’t running for POTUS. Cruz will have to endure debates as this issue is going to come up again, Cruz has to limit some of the back stabbing by his own party. A no vote would only help the establishment attack. Cruz by voting with the rest even though his no vote would have satisfied many, this would pass with/without his vote...Cruz can now argue from the position of all those that voted Yes without being marginalized as the “extremist”. Its a chess move Cruz is making and it has to be analyzed as things are, not as we wish them to be. GOP leadership is the problem here...the RINO’s are totally corrupt.

Well be a sport and explain how Cruz and Cotton shut down the GOP with 2 votes. You explain how they do that.

Explain how it is that all the idiots that went to the voting booth and sent known RINOs who are on record as capitulaters are having their feet held to the fire as promised in order to change their course.

Until you do, I’ll stick with the correct observation that this is a done deal, it is wholly the fault of lesser evil voters and their Republican heroes and the only way out is for Cruz to void the treaty...sorry, ‘agreement’ Day 1 of his presidency.

Assuming we or Israel haven’t been nuked thanks to voter cowardace.

Not a good enough reason, IMO. Kind of a weak statement, actually.

Throw the bum out! Get somebody else in there with guts, fortitude, determination, scruples, smarts, and who is a Christian.

Get one of the Bushes in there! Or Christy. Or Wokker. Jindal! Huckleberry! Or anybody but Cruz! HE JUST MADE KIND OF A WEAK STATEMENT!!!

This is the worst people can find on Cruz?

I don’t have a problem with it. From what I’ve heard about it, the Corker Amendment sucks, but it was the last idea standing to slow down a bad Iran deal.

If the Senate ever got some b”lls and actually had a vote on any Iran “deal” whether it was a treaty or not, I’m 100% confident Ted would be voting that deal down and that’s what matters.

As for the John Kerry references of some throwing around here, give me a break. He’s not voting for a bad Iran deal.

Thank God we have such staunch conservatives among us. We could only be better served by open Democrats.
