Someone at the LATimes must have gotten a traffic ticket. They probably thought they were exempt from the rules for the proles.
Everything is 600+ regarding fines and with traffic school.
:)
The politicians are immune from them. They do not pay so why should we get robbed.
Almost everything in California is too expensive and unconstitutional. That is what happens when you elect liberals and communists at all levels of government.
The law means nothing to them.
20 Mph over the Speed Limit in Virginia is 'Reckless Driving' with possibly of suspended license, community service, or jail time. I guess I shouldn't complain then ...

The fines already exceed the limits set by the legislature. They just call the extra stuff “fees”.
Really, the only way to ensure this is an 8th Amendment violation is take it thru the fed courts all the way to SCOTUS.
Wouldn’t another stupid question be “Why does a Bear poop in the Vatican”?
For the last three years, [Louis K. Campbell] has regularly locked up speeders. Those who have been stopped by a trooper and sent on their way with a ticket might be interested to know that under Virginia law they can--though it's unusual--go to jail for 12 months and be fined $2,500 for speeding offenses that constitute reckless driving. Any speed higher than 80 mph and, generally, anything more than 20 mph over the speed limit is considered reckless.
Drivers clocked in the high 80s in a 65 mph zone usually receive up to six days in jail from Campbell. Above 90, jail time is normally a foregone conclusion...
Welcome to my world ...
It’s not just the fine, it’s all the assessments too! Extra money for night court, for the Highway Patrol, for this and for that to the point that the end tab is double or triple the actual infraction fine. I guess the next thing is the slimes will suddenly realize that gas has gone up over a buck in about three weeks and write a story about that too!
Don’t know the average in the country but fines here in Florida are pretty steep, my wife just got her first ticket ever last week $406.00 fine plus points which the insurance company uses to raise rates for 3 to 5 years it could eventually come out to thousands of dollars, we are going to be fighting it, which I suspect will also be costly.
Red light cameras without end in California. My wife has been Orwelled 3 times in 15 years...
Six hundred dollars? Are you kidding me?! I thought New York was excessive.
Well it’s a lesser evil...
I can pay it - it’s the principle that gets me. I don’t live here, so its hard to fight
