The Vaticans semiofficial newspaper blasted a series of cartoons of Islams Prophet Muhammad as blasphemous but also condemned the mad and bloodthirsty extremists who opened fire at a Texas exhibit of the cartoons.
The front-page article in LOsservatore Romano likened the exhibit in Garland, Texas, to pouring gasoline on the fire of religious sensitivities and was critical of its sponsors, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, and professional provocateur Pamela Geller.
Police on Sunday (May 3) shot and killed two gunmen who opened fire outside the exhibit that was designed to provoke Muslim sensitivities; the so-called Islamic State has since claimed responsibility for the attack that injured a security guard, and promised more to come.
*snip*
After the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Pope Francis condemned the idea of killing in Gods name but warned that you cannot provoke, you cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.

I guess the best spin that can be put on this is that at least the Vatican admitted there was a “fire.”
I wouldn’t put money on that.
what the Vatican says is totally irrelevant
yes how IS he to judge? certainly not the man with the moral fibre to take a real stand.
there are several church bodies I know of who LEFT the Episcopal Church.over just this matter.
Do you believe the pope’s opinions on this topic (or any topic) to be “infallible”?
No I do not
If not, why are you so incensed about it?
Because he allegedly IS infallible and there are a lot of people who believe just that,... who he’s responsible for leading ASTRAY!
Do they believe his comments on this topic are infallible?
Perhaps we should ask some of them. I see a couple of them on this thread.
Question for Roman Catholics only (since you're the experts): Do the pope's comments on this matter come under the "infallibility" doctrine?
I’m not a Roman Catholic.
My understanding has been that the Pope has been..viewed as infallible since there first were popes!
If that is the case... Frankies a failure.
I know that. That's why I asked the experts. If they don't answer, I'll look it up in the Catholic Catechism. But I'd like to hear from actual Roman Catholics.

Good explanation of infallibility.
There’s no need to guess about its meaning.
It’s very rare for a Pope to speak “from the chair”. To my knowledge, this was not one of those times.
Hey, vatican...It is called Freedom of Speech.
Popes come and Popes go, Truth remains Eternal.
Not to millions of Catholics who listen to him...it is NOT irrelevant.
Okay. Thanks
..and just like the Mayor of Baltimore, Americans let the fire burn (except for Texas). Big mistake.
Well, if Franklin is speaking out that is bigoted hate speech /sarc/? What an unnecessary incitement of our moslem brothers and sisters!! I’m sure that Roger Ailes at Fox will order the hired help to castigate and ridicule Franklin into submission to Allah!!
Pope on a rope
