Iain Duncan Smith: Voting for Ukip and Nigel Farage is like writing Britain's 'suicide note'

Voting for UKIP is like writing a “suicide note” which will “not be forgiven” if it denies Britain the chance to vote on whether to remain a member of the EU, Iain Duncan Smith warns today.

In a heartfelt intervention just 48 hours before polling day, the former Conservative leader urges those considering voting UKIP not to jeopardise a decades-long campaign he has waged to change Britain’s relationship with Brussels.

• Latest election polls for May 5

The Work and Pensions Secretary describes a vote for Ukip as “unfathomable” as it risks allowing a weak minority Labour government – backed by the SNP – to seize control of Downing Street.

Mr Duncan Smith’s comments, in an interview with The Telegraph, come as senior Conservative figures prepare to fan out across Britain in a last ditch attempt to win around voters.

Things getting a LOT more hysterical in the UK as the election approaches.

If UKIP is "Projected" to get only 1.8% of seats, as the Telegraph poll suggests, why is everyone spewing such vehement hate towards them?

Oh, and I just "love" Labour's Campaign Slogan:

"Vote for Hope Vote for Change!"

Remind me... Where have I heard that kind of inane, vapid BS rhetoric before? I know it was somewhere.

Ain’t nothing “Conservative” about the Tories. Just another leftist party in a sea of REDS.

Go UKIP !

The real problem is the SNP. If the Scots cannot be persuaded to vote Labour then , the SNP will hold the Balance of power even if UKIP getss no votes.

It sounds like the US media/Democrat/GOPe response to Cruz: Completely meaningless because he has no chance of winning and if he does win it will be the end of the world.

If I were a UK subject I would be voting for the UKIP just because it annoys the establishment parties so much. When all but one party want the UK to be a mere province of Europe, it is time to kick them all to the "kerb".

when the establishment elite tell me i’m not “allowed” to do something, it makes me all the more determined.

Interesting. The SNP just might have Downing Street by the balls in this election.

May the “Lavatories” be flushed out.....Nigel Farage has it right, the major parties fake “Right” and “Left” and are tools of big banks and big business. We have a corporatist system, a cartel of bought and paid for political parties.

Did you see that ridiculous “pledges set in stone” gimmick that Labour came up with a few days back? Google it. Its a tremendous laugh.

Winner-take-all election system? UKIP won't get many seats, true, but votes (much more than 1.8%) for them will make Labour the winner over the Tories in many constituencies. Resulting in a Labour gov't.

UKIP is poised to grab one (or zero) seats, with an slight chance of nabbing a whopping three seats (out of 650). If Farage manages to win his own race, he'll be at MP, otherwise he says he'll quit the UKIP leadership "ten minutes" after he loses. UKIP has over two dozen seats in the EU parliament -- ironically -- but has managed to accomplish nothing.

Both Farage and the LD leader Nick Clegg were showing up in polls as winning handily, then their margins of victory ebbed, then they were losing, now the polls have them winning. Clegg's newfound support appears to be Tory voters planning "tactical" voting, to keep Labour out of the seat, where the Tory candidate is only pulling in about 12 percent. It's not dissimilar to the crossover voting for Joe Lieberman in that three-way race with the rich leftist Ned Lamont and a pubby.
