If you're going to run for president, buy every website domain with your name.
On Monday morning, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina announced she's running for U.S. president. But if you head to CarlyFiorina.org, you'll find a message that criticizes her for firing tens of thousands of workers at HP (HPCQ).
It shows 30,000 sad faces -- one for every employee that was laid off while Fiorina was chief executive from 1999 to 2005. The accusation that she outsourced so many American jobs is a major thorn in Fiorina's side -- and one reason she lost her bid for U.S. Senate in 2010.
No one hijacked the site. It's not a hack. Fiorina's campaign team just didn't buy it soon enough.
This is a standard, dopey mistake politicians make nowadays. And it'll inevitably mean that curious voters will end up seeing this anti-Fiorina message when they're actually trying to find her real website, CarlyFiorina.com (which redirects to CarlyForPresident.com).
That's the thing about websites. No one remembers actual domain names. Most people just type in a candidate's name on Google and search for it. And they'll head to whatever pops up in the results

I agree. I cannot speak about Carly's acumen as a CEO, however the company she took over had been sheltered in a very high margin business for many decades. Competition was bringing that to a quick end - and that was not Carly's doing. She had the thankless task of redesigning the Company to become more competitive in the low margin world. Merged with Compaq, spun-off the instruments division (Infineon), and yes - out sourced. It is tough to survive in the business environment, and you have to make tough decisions. The Government regulations and confiscatory taxation requires American business to run with lead ball and chain tied around their leg.
But whether or not she was an effective CEO - I have no idea.
just to make sure history isn’t ignored: she was a mccain-ite, GOP/Chamber darling who in 2010 sadly destroyed the chances of one of the best conservative candidates we ever had in ca, chuck devore (came 2nd in the primary). it was the last chance we had to do something in ca about boxer or to turn ca around via the tea party.
she caused the diversion of massive GOPe funds to ca that election cycle (the GOP kept saying she can win, she can win, even dumping millions of money into the race in the last weeks), helping save GOPe candidates like mccain, while, imo, causing tea party losses in some very close elections that year. inexperienced politically, she lost by a landslide against the horrible boxer, despite the expenditure massive amounts of GOP (and her own) money that won the primary for her. i won’t even go into the disaster at HP.
Rick Snyder, Michigan Governor ran Gateway too.
Though if we did this to, say, Alan Grayson, I think we’d all agree it was pretty cool.
I hate HP for other reasons, like selling ink jet prnters with half to 1/4 full ink cartridges so you have to shell out 50 bucks afor a full ink cartridge a few weeks after buying your inkjet printer.
Their laser printers are still pretty good.
Their laptops still suck and their desktops suck too especially since they absorbed the suck that is compaq.
Let’s see how many employees were killed under her watch compared to Cankles
[ And she killed off PA-RISC which in turn killed/is killing off HP-UX. And then she added Compaq so HPs gross went over $49 billion in order to collect her bonus. Compaq took over HP with HPs money. Thanks Carly. ]
Granted they kinda mismanaged it before then and let sun swoop in and take market share and then Linux showed up and kinda turned it all on it’s ear as now you didn;t have to buy expensive hardwware from Sun or HP to have an enterprise level server.
“Carly was a disaster, she single handedly destroyed one of Americas greatest technical companies.”
I don’t remember HP doing particularly well before Carly - nor am I certain it’s been improved much since others took over. Most CEOs don’t last 5 years before being fired,
I’d like to see someone with experience laying off people take over the federal government and do the same with a vengeance.

Cara Carleton Fiorina is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN
Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama still ISN'T!
You need to update your memory. Carly was an obvious disaster within 6 months, the board refused to fire her because she was a woman and kept her on for 5 years because the only reason they gave her the job was because she was a woman and would have to eat too much or crow to admit the disaster they created.
Carly was a great sales person, but had zero line experience and it was obvious she was over her head immediately. She should have never gotten the job and the board boxed themselves into a corner because they didn’t want to be seen as being anti woman after making such a big deal of hiring her in the first place.
Absolute disaster at all levels. She destroyed HP, if you think otherwise you need to go educate yourself on the whole episode.

Please re read the post you responded to with comprehension.
That and the fact she has actually held down a private sector job and made a go of it. What has Obama ever done?
Not one damned thing...
Thanks for the mention.
I did re-ready, you implied that the fact she lasted 5 years was because she couldn’t have been that bad, and in fact the fact she lasted 5 years was because her original hire was a political move and the failure of it was obvious inside of 6 months, but they could not escape from the fiasco.
I understood completely well what you tried to imply, and it was a completely false premise.
No CEO alone has the power or means to make chicken salad out of chicken sh**.
I have yet to see anything close to a methodical analysis of what happened at and to HP before, during and after her tenure.
I do know from experience that lots of people, functions, departments in large organizations take on lives of their own.
If she cut obsolete products, and unnecessary staff levels, she did good.
The entire IT business group went through a down cycle.
I expect much of the criticism of her comes from those that were terminated. They don’t write it up and say they were part of divisions and product lines that were growing and profitable.
They don’t really back up their claims against her. I recall a very wise and skilled top executive who laid out his philosophy for overhead costs, thusly: “What are we doing, why are we doing it, and when are we going to stop?”
The people who carry out cost reductions are never popular. I remember streamlining some functions, reducing man-hours, and then being disliked by those who got smaller paychecks due to less overtime.
Pro-sodomite, Carly? No, thanks. You’re a democrat.
Well, no. I didn’t imply anything.
I stated I didn’t know how well HP did before Carly - or after Carly.
You haven’t addressed that. If you don’t want to, that is fine.
Please, you really are reaching... What did Carly do? Oh lets see, She decided to buy out Compaq, which was the stupidest move in the world! She made a boneheaded argument that this would somehow make the company stronger, because you know when you are manufacturing a small margin product like PC’s buying out another player making the same small margin product is going to somehow win you economies of scale and save your ass...
It of course didn’t, burned through HP’s cash, causing the cut in R&D to the point of guaranteeing that HP would never innovate again.
She was a train wreck, you need to get your head out of your ass and understand what R&D is to a tech company, the minute you kill R&D you guarantee your company’s future will be lessened... She made bonehead play after bonehead play and because of her complete bonehead actions killed the revenues of the company, its stock value as well, and then when all those chickens came home to roost fired the the folks and department that had built and sustained HP as a market leader and innovator over its entire existence.
HP was not chickenshit when she took control, but she sure made sure it was by the time she was gone... You can read case study after case study about how abysmal her tenure was, and there are 10s of thousands of technical folks who can tell you first hand just how badly she drove that company into the ground.
Her tenure was a disaster, attempting to spin it as not or that she was just a victim of circumstances shows complete ignorance of the entire situation. Carly was an affirmative action hire, who was beyond her depth from the get go. I am sure she tried her best, but her best was not remotely good enough, and to try to argue that what she did to HP was the result of just random happenstance while she held the top chair is beyond ignorant.... or to steal a quote... “requires the willful suspension of disbelief”.

While she does not endorse same-sex marriages, Ms. Fiorina supports granting government benefits to same-sex couples. She defended the recent Indiana law, subsequently altered, that drew criticism for having the potential to allow discrimination against gay people.
People of religious conviction know that marriage is a religious institution with a spiritual foundation because only a man and a woman can create life, which is a gift that comes from God, she said. We must protect their rights as well.
