Is Russia Planning to Disassemble the International Space Station?
Goodbye, International Space Station. We hardly knew ye.
For nearly two decades, since the launch of its first "module" in 1998, the International Space Station has been a symbol of global cooperation, and the site of actual cooperation among scientists from many nations. Comprised of 15 separate modules, and inhabited continuously since 2000, the International Space Station has hosted upward of 200 astronauts and cosmonauts from 15 different nations over 17 years in service. But in just a few more years, all this will come to an end.
Like disassembling an old Lego set, Russia plans to break up ISS, detach its modules, and use them to build its own space station by 2023.

And the answer would appear to be: "Homeless in space." As Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin pointed out last year, "The Russian segment [of the ISS] can exist independently from the American one, but the American segment cannot exist without the Russian." The implication being that once the Russians move out in 2023/2024, if we want a space station we're going to need to build it ourselves.

You could not be more wrong a thousand times over. Orbital space stations such as the ISS will soon be indispensable stepping stones to the commercial use of space producing more additional gross domestic products than the entire United States produces today. Todays investors in the successful companies participating in the commercial space business can potentially become the next billionaires by the time of the retirements. This is not hyperbole, because the potential commercial income from civilian business activities in space are enough to make Apple Inc. look like very very small potatoes.
There is also the matter of “The High Ground”, which the United States cannot afford to cede to nations which are declaring themselves to be the enemies of the United States and seek to conquer mankind on the Earth.
But the POTUS says we can just wipe out any enemies with UAVs and special forces like we did bin Laden. And that is why America is shooting itself in the foot, or maybe even chopping it’s own right hand off, I am not sure which is more accurate.
Our space program is an utter failure. Washington has given up on it. We should own the Moon and so much more. The technical advances are incredible, yet now we are left bumming rides with the Russians. Very sad.
Something is going to spark the powder keg that has built up under the world under Obama’s watch. It’s gonna be big. Prepare for strife. The sh*t will hit the fan right after the next President takes office.

Iowamark is right. The ISS either reproduces knowledge we already have, or the knowledge that is new can be obtained in much cheaper ways. The ISS is a “make work” program for NASA.

My national budget covers the Military, intelligence agencies, and NASA. USPS (which I adore) pays its own bills. No taxation for anything else.
So yeah, let’s build cutting edge space stations.
There is no commercial use of manned spaceflight. ISS has no commercial purpose or value. A low earth orbit craft like ISS contributes nothing to space travel. ISS is only 200 miles above earth. It is at least 365 million miles to Jupiter.
Commercial profits? Even if there were gold or diamonds sitting on the moon or on asteroids, it would not be profitable to go get them. The costs are much too high.

What is a commercial value of walking straight instead of on four nimbs and eating prepared foods after all? Or clothes made out of processed fabrics instead of animal skins? What is a purpose of running water, plumbing and electricity? It was all unnecessary and a waste in terms of the Stone Age.
NASA is a Clowert Piven agenda to siphon funds from the military space program. While NaSA was losing the space race to sputnik, our military space program was roaring and had already been there and done that.

The space station was initially solely American. The technology still is. But Bill and Hillary were elected, and they wanted the money to spend on social programs. Hillary also canceled, on her own, the following (from Wikipedia):
