Soon more than 1 billion consumers in developing nations will be able to buy their first air conditioner, increasing energy demand, says co-author of new study.
Global warming will increase sales of air conditioners, which in turn will increase climate change, according to a forthcoming study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The growth of global economies will allow more consumers around the world to buy more comforts, including air conditioners, according to the researchers from the University of California Berkeley. The increased use of air conditioners, however, will require significantly more electricity.
Air conditioning and global warming, the studys authors contend, become a spiral that can cycle toward environmental disaster. As global temperatures rise, more consumers will buy air conditioners, which then add to more global warming.
The authors claim that action should be taken now, before a large mass of people around the world have the means to afford air conditioners.

Impoverish the world, before its too late!!
So, EVERYONE (except the “elite”)
SHOULD BE BANNED FROM USING AIR CONDITIONERS!
Save the planet. Death to humanity.
Yes, kill all those potential air conditioner buying riff raff.
Get with the program.
...wrote the co-author from his air conditioned office. Will those with allergies/asthma get a medical waiver to keep their central air? It keeps my son from having constant asthma attacks.
Their sense of superiority knows no bounds.
This moronic study is going to be published in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences?
They need to change their name to the National Academy of Dunces.
or worse .. they may say that since the 1B have never had air conditioners and thus should be given a break .. and WE in the developed world must stop using ours. They won’t outlaw air conditioners. No need. They can just increase taxes on coolants and have those proceeds flow to the treasury. Probably does not reduce usage but raises more money for dems to buy off their voters
So running my ac will cause warmer weather which will cause me to run my ac even more. Ok, I get it now.
“Increased air conditioner use will add to global warming”
Yeah, but “global warming” leads to “global cooling”, and vice versa.
What global warming? Show me some data ... that hasn’t been manipulated.
What a wonderful thing — making life easier for humans. But we can't have that. No, no, no.
How many air conditioners in use would it take to equal the “carbon footprint” left by just one of the planes used by the global warmists, to ferry them to many global “conferences”, all over the world?
The Lear Jet Leftists expect to form the core of the global Green Inner Party. They will continue to enjoy the finest foods and most advanced gadgets the world has to offer — while deciding your fate for you.
If you work very hard and show them your unwavering loyalty you may be permitted to join the global Green Outer Party. You will be allowed occasional servings of meat - and air conditioning on a rationed basis.
The rest of us will eat beans and swelter for the good of the planet.
LOL
I’ll run mine so much it will lead to cooler weather.
Last summer was so cold I barely used mine and this spring hasn’t left me optimistic that I’ll be needing it much.
So, as the weather gets hotter, one should try his best to save the planet by not turning on the air conditioner and simply sweat it out?
Genius.
Just like what happened in the European heatwave of 2003 that killed tens of thousands.

Cool.
Hey, if air conditioners do cause global warming, why not just open the windows and let the cool air-conditioned air out to cool things off outdoors?
