Microsoft expects its newest operating system, Windows 10, to be running on 1 billion computers within two to three years.
The figure, which includes desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones, was repeatedly touted Wednesday at Microsofts annual conference for application developers. Microsoft has struggled to get companies to make apps for Windows mobile devices, part of a self-perpetuating cycle that makes Windows smartphones less attractive to consumers.

OK, here’s a question, what was Microsoft’s forecast for the Surface Pro 3 Windows 8.1 Tablet cum portable computer?
Did they meet the forecast target for that?
And here’s a more fundamental question, what was their forecast for Window 8 when it was about to be released?
I wonder if past performance is an indicator of future performance in this case ...
I’ll give them this — with Windows 10, they DID listen to all the critics and complaints about Windows 8, so it SHOULD be a better product.
But 1 billion? We shall see....
I think my new Alienware M18 qualifies me for a free “upgrade”.
It was all I could do to type that with a straight face.
;D
Heads up for your Windows Ping list

Resistance is futile. You will switch to Windows 10.
hmmm I rather tap Cortana, then Jen, just saying.
How binary of you.
Billions and Billions of unfortunate new customers who fail to realize that they are the “field test” for the new system.
Windows 8 should have been the clarion call as to just sorry Microsoft engineering is.
What happened to Windows 4, 5, 6, and 9 with a sprinkling of a few more names in the mix that were horrible systems?
Now there’s 10!!!!!! Is there any end to the Microsoft “throw away” software?
Sounds to me like the MARKETING SPIN presented before attempting the SALE of the product.
Microsoft is planning on you paying them a yearly fee to use Windows 10 like they do with Office. Once they get Windows 10 installed they will make the switch.
Just say “No” and install Linux. It puts new life into old hardware.
“Microsoft is planning on you paying them a yearly fee to use Windows 10...”
I like windows 10 above 8, but frankly it still has too much 8 in it. I can’t imagine any scenario where I’d want to pay a subscription for the basic necessity of running hardware. Sometimes I wonder if they are not trying to hand the market over to Apple and/or Linux as Windows 8 damn near did.
Why am I seeing Uma Thurman there....? I must be hallucinating.
