Religious institutions could be at risk of losing their tax-exempt status due to their beliefs about marriage if the Supreme Court holds that gay couples have a constitutional right to wed, President Obamas attorney acknowledged to the Supreme Court today.
Its certainly going to be an issue, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli replied when Justice Samuel Alito asked if schools that support the traditional definition of marriage would have to be treated like schools that once opposed interracial marriage. I dont deny that.

Thanks for the info.
Massive amounts of tax exempt money goes to liberal elite slush funds like the ones the Clinton’s run. It’s time to STOP all tax exempt status boondoggles...
Church’s would have more power if they paid their taxes and didn’t have to compete with liberal elite ‘foundations from hell’ working against them.
>>Ending religious freedom is the goal.
Binding religious truth with an IRS exemption was never about freedom.
I finally, finally get it. The shoe has dropped. Why has our government come onboard with the idea of gay marriage, when for so long government supported straight marriage only? Ask King Henry VIII. When he wanted to marry Anne Boleyn, he eventually broke with the Catholic church to do it. So yes, he got the woman of his dreams (and eventually nightmares) . . . but do you know what else he got? In 1534 the Act of Annates awarded all the church taxes that HAD gone to Rome . . . to the King of England instead. Friends, that was a LOT of money.
And now, if Southern Baptists and Catholics and many other “stubborn” Christian sects will not recognize gay marriage . . . then they will lose their tax-exempt status. And again, a LOT of money will devolve to the Crown . . . oops, sorry, the U.S. Treasury.
Yep. I finally get it.
obammy like most socialists want the state to be the supreme leader, not GOD.
It is why stalin and mao got rid of religion.
How is the current set-up "religious freedom" if they are beholden to Uncle Sugar for the tax-exempt status?
Everyone who gets some sort of largess or "favor" from the government opens the door for the government to meddle in its affairs.
Actually, why wouldn’t they be subjected to government abuse if they WERE taxed? Seems to me a case for government meddling could be made for that case, too.
My understanding is that a church, generally, is a non-profit engaged in charitable work. A government taxing such an entity could be construed as violating freedom of religion.
Additionally, it seems to me the assumption that a government is doing us a favor by not taxing us fundamentally misunderstands the idea of natural rights and private property rights.
I guess they go back to the state the were married in to get a divorce. Probably should have stayed in that state to begin with.
CAN YOU BRING A P I G into a mosque....???? why not
S O D O M Y ....... the LIBTARD STATE RELIGION
they want to stick it up everyone’s AZZ
I don’t think that will remedy the issue. Homosexuals will just then demand that you do the “ceremony” for them as well. It’s still an insult to Jesus.
I think getting rid of tax exempt status is the best way to go. The American church will have to adapt to that, but it can still grow and with less government interference.
Of course, if the government still wants to interfere with them, they could always go underground. It would be a good indication to the rest of the world on the nature of whom is in power.
