Religious institutions could be at risk of losing their tax-exempt status due to their beliefs about marriage if the Supreme Court holds that gay couples have a constitutional right to wed, President Obamas attorney acknowledged to the Supreme Court today.
Its certainly going to be an issue, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli replied when Justice Samuel Alito asked if schools that support the traditional definition of marriage would have to be treated like schools that once opposed interracial marriage. I dont deny that.

Duh. Anyone who doesn’t recognize this is delusional. A national mandate on homosexual “marriage” means attacks on every church that refuses to perform them.

to these brownshirts.
Duh — that’s the Admin’s entire point. Staying faithful for life because God is watching is not the reproductively-challenged, sex-obsessed litigants’ point.

But wait a minute...I thought homos sinply want to live in holy, eternal matrimony?
Will pastors eventually be jailed? Underground churches? It’s a good time for Jesus to return.
Why are Supreme court judges that have presided over queer marriages not recusing after they have blasphemed God and our Culture? I’m sick of this. Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg, Hagan Sotamier — GET THE HELL OFF THE CASE!!
First amendment be damned.
Unless you are rioting in the streets. ;-)
A judge recuses himself from a case if he believes it’s wrong to rule on a case where he has a personal interest. For people like Ginsberg and Sotomayor, the whole point of being a judge is to make their personal interest the law of the land. They have no concept of legal ethics as traditionally (Bad Word!!!) understood.
Not only will pastors who have the courage to speak the truth cause the loss of tax-exempt status, they will be charged with hate speech. Will The Bible be considered “hate” literature?
I have said for a long time that the issue of homosexuality will be the great dividing line. It will be the believing Christians against the rest of society.
It's already happened in Europe and Canada. The only question for the US is "When?" not "If?"
It would hurt a lot of churches. On the other hand, they could campaign from the pulpit (like some already do) and the government would have no say in the matter. Churches would be free to explicitly endorse candidates and denounce other candidates. The government would have to figure some other way to muzzle the pastors and priests.
Those were public schools, no?
Well yeah. I have been arguing with libertarians here at FR over this point for over a decade. The response? A mindless “How does same sex marriage affect you?” The reply is always the same, the abolition of the First Amendment and more power in the hands of federal government a d Article III judges.
You NAILED it.
As I said on another thread, if I were Justice Alito, I would have yelled at him and said “Don’t EVER say that in court again.”
Considering how now the Catholic Church is shilling for illegal immigration and against global warming, perhaps their tax-exempt status needs to be pulled.
