Fine....then preachers can say what they want.
Unfortunately a lot of preachers and institutions will close if they lose tax exempt status.
They already can.
They just have to pay tax on that portion of their time that they spent on non-exempt activity.
So, if he spends 40 hours a week on church activity and a total of one hour per week on non-exempt prep and presentation,
then 1/40th of their “income” would be taxable.
re: “Fine....then preachers can say what they want.”
I disagree. They may be left alone for a short time, but if there is no push back to removing the tax exempt status, then the next rung on the descent into hell is declaring preaching against homosexuality or same-sex marriage as “hate speech”. The mayor in San Antonio already tried to do that very thing, but it was stopped, for now.
Canada and the UK already have such laws and have been prosecuting ministers who preach “hate.
Then, next is declaring the Bible a “hate book”.
If nothing happens to turn this juggernaut around, I think we are looking at all these things happening within the next 5 to 10 years. Maybe sooner.
They should be able to say what they want anyway.
They always could (and always will).
