A reporter is under fire for texting during the National Anthem and refusing to apologize.
Helena Andrews, who writes the Reliable Source gossip column for The Washington Post, was caught on video using her cell phone as the "Star Spangled Banner" played Saturday at the 2015 White House Correspondents dinner. Andrews appeared to be typing with her head down, glued to her smartphone's screen, while other attendees stood solemnly with their hands over their hearts until the patriotic song finished....
"Apparently someone saw me on TV 'texting' during the dinner. FTR (For The Record) I was taking notes. On my phone. Because it's 2015," she tweeted.

I doan gotta pay no effin’ respeks!
Put down the gizmos and honor YOUR COUNTRY for 90 seconds.
Disrespect if not outright ignorance of national pride, patriotism, and sovereignty are de rigeur in most of the world. Many Europeans come to the US and notice almost immediately how many flags there are everywhere. They say that’s just not common anywhere in Europe.
Most Europeans I know and with whom I work say that the national anthem being sung before every sporting event is “bordering on cult-like” and they eschew our practices as anachronistic and “backwards thinking.”
Bone head media member at play.
What? - show respect for the symbol of the country that guarantees her right and ability to pursue her livelihood as a reporter by providing for freedom of the press? - how old-fashioned......
Stop...for one moment...being a Liberal jackass and admit you screwed up. This would all go away in a heartbeat.
According to the United States Flag Code, When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the music. Unless a military member in uniform, citizens should stand at salute by placing their hand over their heart, facing the American Flag.

Willie Sutton.
Many of the European flags have crosses in them from the times past when they were created, symbolic of Christianity. They have been suppressed in favor of muslim immigration and Europe's socially leftist rejection of Christianity.
She’d be singing a different tune if she caught honkey whispering during the minute of silence for Trayvon.
It was during the national anthem, but she only looked down for the moment when the words "under God" were sung, thus making it acceptable disrespect.
Of The Star Spangled Banner? Did you not learn that in grade school?

I see people glued to their phones all the time. They can barely eat they are so attentive to their phones. I’ve been in restaurants where entire families are busy glued to their phones and ignoring each other .. the entire meal. They barely look up as the server places food in front of them.
I see them walking and using a phone (and tripping over things). I certainly see people texting and driving all the time.
I have stood at a receptionist counter and waited to be acknowledged for 5 minutes while the receptionist played with her phone (and did not look up once). I decided to stand there and not say anything just to see how long it would take. I timed it. 5 whole minutes before I said something and finally got her attention. If I were her boss she would be fired immediately.
This is just a smattering of my anecdotes. I’ve seen parents ignore their small children (those too young to have their own device) for long periods of time until the child has to cry or scream to get their attention.
Yes, it is 2015. That still doesn’t make it right.
OK, so I was thinking of the Pledge above - but I think the point still comes across.
“Willie Sutton.”
Said he didn’t say it, either. Maybe it was stolen from Dillinger.
Or to quote Moochelle Obunga when speaking about an incident involving Old Glory, “All that for a damned flag?!”
I sense something is rising out there that the fascists in office and out aren’t going to like. Both sides better hope America’s down hill slide gets settled at the battle box with a ballot, or else it will reap a battle outside the ballot box.
If you get my drift.
It was heartening to see the responses following this column.
but it’s THEIR ANTHEM now!!
I would expect people to turn off all cells phones at a large dinner.
I would have thought that the event planners would have had a notice up saying ‘turn off all cell phones’.
Common courtesy is disappearing.
