The owners of an Oregon bakery learned Friday that there is a severe price to pay for following their Christian faith.
A judge for the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) recommended a lesbian couple should receive $135,000 in damages for their emotional suffering after Sweet Cakes by Melissa refused to make them a wedding cake.
As a result - Aaron and Melissa Klein could lose everything they own including their home.
The Oregonian reports the recommended penalty is not final and could be raised or lowered by State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian.
The controversy started in 2013 when Aaron Klein declined to provide a cake for a lesbian wedding. Later that year, the women filed a complaint against Klein and his wife, Melissa.
"The facts of this case clearly demonstrate that the Kleins unlawfully discriminated against the Complainants, read a statement by the BOLI to the Oregonian. Under Oregon law, businesses cannot discriminate or refuse service based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot turn customers away because of race, sex, disability, age, religion. Our agency is committed to fair and thorough enforcement of Oregon civil rights laws, including the Equality Act of 2007."
Within hours of the ruling, the Family Research Council facilitated the establishment of a GoFundMe account to help the Kleins raise the money the need. In less than eight hours, more than $100,000 was raised.
However, late Friday GoFundMe pulled the plug sending this message to would-be donors:
After careful review by our team, we have found the Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa campaign to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions, the message read. The money raised thus far will still be made available for withdrawal.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins blasted the harsh penalty levied against the Kleins.

Some look at a scene like this and have glee, our enemies of flesh and blood have now gotten their just desserts.
Others think how sad, Satan has taken slaves and can such slaves be freed before this situation has become permanent?
Boycott any business owned by HOMOsexuals
No.
Just say no.
Tell them that they are in violation of the first amendment even in making the ruling and that you will not comply with their illegal action.
It is helpful that such things rise to a peak of high public awareness as the USSC muses on the ridiculous question of whether Uncle Sam can be the shotgun in “gay wedding” adoption.
If it takes horrible outrages before people care, then God arranges to let those outrages happen.
Yes, a most valid point in my view.
Is this what the courts do if this were the case?
Muslim bakers must pay $135,000 for refusing to make a cake for a Jewish wedding!
They are fapping and thrilled for this gourmet meal ticket. It is sordid. Liberty is no more, folks.
“My guess is that hell make it equal to the GoFundMe plus Smaritans Purse contributions.”
With Samaritan’s Purse, the donation is designated as going to persecuted Christians so hopefully that will shield them from having to disclose what was directly raised for the couple. I was concerned when I read the story, too.
“These lesbians, and millions of vicious liberals like them, want to completely destroy you. Wake up. “
You are absolutely correct!!!
Anyone that does that needs to be prepared for the government to put a lien on their property, seize their assets (including bank accounts) and garnish their wages.
The old woman being sued in Washington state was being sued as both a person and business, by both men she refused service to AND the state.
They were threatening to take all of her personal assets as well as the business.
The state offered to settle for a few thousand dollars as long as she agrees to give service - and she refused the offer. The issue wasn’t money to them but principle.

In other words an Executive branch administrative “judge”, not a Judicial branch judge?
“Emotional suffering” because someone would not bake you a cake? Any such person has psychological problems.
Yep, you got that exactly right. Pathetic!
Ted may be the only one with the guts to make it stop....although I have hope for Walker.
I’d bake them a cake ... a Mexican sheetcake.
What do you have to lose by refusing?
Go down swinging. Make them come and take it. And declare long and loud that they are violating your constitutional rights.
The courts should have given them a very small fine and then suspended it and then people would be saying that such reaction was over the top.
But they overplayed their hand. They have made it clear that they intend to strip away everything this couple owns.
So if Aaron and Melissa Klein stand up and say, yes, this is the hill we have chosen to die on, it is understandable to people who are not paying attention.
“Awesome! Good for Graham.”
Yeah, Reverend Graham seems to be doing a lot of good these days. And he has a boldness that is head and shoulders above anyone else, as far as I can tell.
I would like to see other leaders of the faith step up to the plate.
Hear, hear!
Judges seem to need attention.
“Gays” DO NOT deserve a custom-designed cake—nor a nice wedding venue, lovely catered foods, beautify floral arrangements, etc. etc. to celebrate their perverted couplings!!!!
Nor should they have the right to use the power of the state to persecute businesses that refuse to provide them these amenities—especially businesses owned by Christians who rightly consider “gay” couplings to be abominations!!!!
Even non-Christians who are disgusted by “gays” should have the right to refuse them these services!!!!
The fact that these lesbian perverts and the state are pursuing the owners of this bakery to the point of leaving them DESTITUTE demonstrate the complete lack of character and compassion of the lesbian perverts, as well as of the liberal-shit state officials. I hate to say “I told you so”, but that is only to be expected!!!!
