Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.
Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.
"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.
I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."
"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.
Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.
But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)
Walker is not a liberal. Careful with that.
Here, try this. Unpleasant as it will be, go back through my posts from yesterday, and read my most recent comments directly referencing Walker. This will inform you as to my opinion.
>>Bye Ted!<<
We’ll see. Can’t wait till the debates. Ted Cruz is a master debater, he will shine shine shine when it comes time.
Cruz not only out debates his opponents, he is an expert regarding the constitution. This is going to be a blast!
Some people do not know the meaning or sense of ‘completely’ doing something.
Immigration policy covers both. The history of limiting immigration was talking about legal immigration. What I was trying to say was that we have had limited legal immigration in the past and that we have never had an open-door everyone come policy until now.
I think that we all agree that illegal immigration is against the law. I hope no one is calling for an increase in that!
I agree with you that there are those out there playing political games and trying to stir up controversy. Right now they seem to be concentrating on two candidates and we know why. It is good to remind us that we shouldn’t play into it.
Quote from your link:
"Doubling the overall worldwide green card caps from
675,000 visas per year to 1.35 million per year "
That was not in your story, they didn't quote this and neither you or
the writer of this tabloid junk made any reference to it.
When you go around insinuating Cruz is somehow affiliating LEGAL immigration
with illegal immigration "WHICH IS THE ISSUE" do not expect to be taken seriously.
Like another poster who tried to say Cruz legislated raising H1B's (32-MILLION)
until I had to finally pin them down and make them admit (32-THOUSAND). oop!
The issue today is illegal immigration, not legal. And for you to attack Cruz on
Green cards, H1B visas is insanely sidetracking the true issue in our day, illegals.
You want to stomp your feet about Cruz, go ahead. But in the end you're once
again not doing Walker any favors by pissing people off by doing so.
Where has Walker done anything about illegals? He's the Elephant in the room
because he's just a Governor and is being backed by ass-Bots like yourself who
perfectly mimic the Paul-bot crowd in a scary way.
Your Walker isn't doing a damn thing to throw out those illegals in his state.
Want to talk about illegals? Talk about Walker doing something about those
illegals instead of making nice with the Chamber of Commerce behind closed doors.
Lets not forget the first paragraph in this editorial was a Lie, and the
wife of the author working for the Walker camp.
Kabar, it’s pointless to discuss this with you.
You’re in the tank for Walker and you can’t even think straight.
We do use the term Hispanic with regard to illegal immigration? Any idea at all?
It’s because the massive portion of illegal immigration comes from Mexico. In addition there is a lot from other Central American nations.
If we address Mexicans, people wet themselves. If we talk about any other group, we get the same result. Guatemalans... you name it, you’re a Xenophobe if you mention a group.
People have resorted to addressing “Hispanics” and now that’s a taboo term too.
Lets face it, you don’t mind us talking about illegal immigration as long as we don’t use the words or phrases like, Mexican, Guatamalan, any other nation in the Central America, sovereignty, government services, massive numbers of children in our schools, health care, or the U. S. Constitution.
Other than that, talk all we want right?
There’s not much to discuss using your guidelines.

No, he’s not right.
What you are blinded to, is the issue of a few good people being outnumbers in vast numbers by people coming here these days to get on the government dole, not to assimilate.
It’s time to call a halt in immigration for 20-30 years.
We have tens of millions of U. S. Citizens without work.
What part of that can you bot grasp?
I’m thinking the “Screw them” option is the only option with most of them.
Check this out.

I 100% agree with you.
No point bashing your head against the wall.
LOL. I thought you were brighter than that. The point I was making was that the Government (federal, state and local) uses this phony category to give people special rights and privileges. This didn't start until the 1970s. The Census Bureau counts non-Hispanic whites in contrast to Hispanics who can be of any color. George Zimmerman is considered an Hispanic white entitled to affirmative action and minority business set asides.
The term Hispanic is meant to confer group identity, which increases the influence of many ethic groups in much the same way Asians are lumped under one category, The Dems use identity politics to further their objectives, Non-Hispanic whites are the oppressors with all other groups having a grievance against them. This is the meme that allowed Obama to get 75% of the Asian vote; 73% of the Hispanic vote; and 93% of the black vote. Romney won the white vote 59% to 39% and he won the independent vote.
The changing demography of America fueled by immigration will make non-Hispanic whites a minority by 2043 and by 2060 they will be 43% of the population. You can thank the 1965 Immigration Act for that along with Bush 41 who signed off on doubling legal immigration to over a million a year. 87% of legal immigrants are minorities as defined by the USG. You live in CA so this should come as no surprise to you.
Obama's executive amnesties and expansion of the immigration numbers will hasten this ongoing process. I suspect this will happen significantly sooner than 2043. Half of the children 18 and under will be minorities by 2019. Every cohort that turns 18 each year will be more minority and more Democrat than the previous one.
All in all, minorities, now 37 percent of the U.S. population, are projected to comprise 57 percent of the population in 2060. (Minorities consist of all but the single-race, non-Hispanic white population.) The total minority population would more than double, from 116.2 million to 241.3 million over the period.
FYI: Ted Cruz favors allowing the illegals to stay, but without a path to citizenship. This is still amnesty.
I'm really growing tired of your bullshit agenda. Isn't that want you wanted?
Cruz wont deport the illegals already here
You keep pulling assumptions out of your butt.
Your Walker is a coward and will sell us all out once in DC, Potomac fever.
He hasn't done a damn thing about his illegal immigration problem and he's
a Governor.
If Walker gets far ahead in the field and becomes the Contender for 2016
the Dems will win, again. Your Walker doesn't have what it takes to take on
the DC Democrat establishment and I see him as another weak-kneed Santorum.
Walker Cannot Beat Any Democrat for POTUS. Period...
You have not one ounce of integrity by posting things that do not exist.
You sir, are a Walker-Bot Hack.
And btw, posting one ounce of truth with a pound of lies doesn't make your lies truth.
Boy, that'll show-em not to come swimming across that Border.
I’ll bet that if we checked the names of forum participants who supported Perry in 20012, we’ve find the same folks backing Walker now. The most prominent one is.
If the same FReepers who backed Perry now back Walker, what does that tell you?
I get a kick out of you winding making my point for me, and yet you support a man that doesn’t want the illegals here to go back to their home nations.
Once again, he’s doing exactly what you followed McCain around protesting against.
What part of that escapes you?
Then when I call you on it, you tell me I’m not nearly as smart as you thought I was.
LOL
