Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.
Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.
"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.
I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."
"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.
Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.
But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)
lol...I’ll probably meet ya down there.
So what happened to all that red state stuff? CA used to be red too. Reagan was Governor. Of course that was back in the former America.
No, I haven’t faded out. I answered your question, but you didn’t answer mine.
Are you calling my mom a non-American, ansel?
Plus I would also like to address this-
“but the pro-immigration freepers have never explained why they would support what makes this modern leftism possible.”
What makes modern leftism possible, especially the modern leftism that infects America, is LIES.
That’s it, ansel. LIES. Not foreigners. LIES.
As long as Americans continue their love affair with lies, then America will continue to decline.
And that is all there is to it.
The vote is what makes modern leftism possible.
What gives the left the votes? Immigration does.
That is all there is to it, without the votes the radical left dies, and the democrat party would have to start moving right again to win votes.
Why do you think the left depends on immigration and fights for it above all things, because if the flow stops, then they die.
You forgot to put the word “illegal” before the word “immigration.”
No I didn’t, you can’t read?
I don’t know why anyone would think that way.
What I do known for a fact, as the the population expands the more the control expands.
Big gov loves bigger populations. Makes big gov grow real big.
You are right. Between being UA on a vote that is his job and then this. I am not surprised his polling is subpar. I don’t think he is ready for the next step regardless of what he thinks. I am convinced he won’t be President in January 2017. Walker has a pretty good shot.
“The vote is what makes modern leftism possible.”
What drives the vote? Lies.
“What gives the left the votes? Immigration does.”
Voters who believe the lies that they have been told, pretty much the same thing that gives the GOP votes.
“That is all there is to it, without the votes the radical left dies, and the democrat party would have to start moving right again to win votes.”
The radical left is never going to die, ansel. They have been around since the dawn of time and in every civilization. What drives them is the desire to control others, and that is a very common human desire.
The reason conservatives are losing to the left is because they have become complacent, and they have been complacent for a long, long time all the while the left fights all day, every day for total control, and even when they have it, they won’t rest.
That is their nature.
What will kill the left is truth. You know the left exists in countries that do not have votes, and they exist by way of the lie, the same way they exist here.
If conservatives gave voters, including immigrants, reasons to vote for them, then I bet they would get more votes, but conservatives are mostly silent as far as I can see, and the GOP isn’t conservative at all.
In your post, silly.
Cool. Good luck.
Walker doesn’t seem trustworthy to me, but if he seems trustworthy to you, then by all means, vote for him.
Are you going to just troll, or say something real?
Well some don’t trust Walker. But honestly I am waiting till the Debates. That is really when we find out about these guys. Right now all this is, is fodder. Really nonsense. We are 1 percent of the population so all we are doing now is running our mouths. lol.
Stop copying my ideas.
Haha I can’t argue with that.
And listen I am not opposed to Walker, it’s just that I haven’t been convinced of his sincerity yet on this particular issue.
My main beef is obviously the current and recent waves of illegal immigrants and amnesty being discussed for them.
I really would like to have that addressed in an honest manner.
I hate being lied to. Just tell me what you believe and what you want to do and let me make up my mind. But if you try to deceive me, I’ll be furious.
So right now I have a good sense of trust with Cruz. Even if he says something I don’t necessarily agree with, if I think he’s being honest, that goes a very long way with me.
Looking for an honest politician is a really, really hard search.
I know that you are often defending abortion, and now you are defending immigration, and using the same inability to reason and see the facts.
You do not seem to understand that immigration is what gives the democrat party the votes to run the nation, the pre immigration Americans vote against the democrats.
Do you think the left would have passed the 1965 Immigration act and fought for immigration for 50 years, if they voted republican?
Do you ever look at the data of who votes how, and who makes up the two different parties?
Why do you think the left knows that as immigration delivers them state after state, that in time it will get all of the states?
I know a few immigrants. I have to say every one of them is a liberal. Just saying. My world is small but I do know that some of them bring their socialism with them. And every one of these people are highly educated.
We’ve disagreed in past threads but I agree with you on that. At this point I fully support Cruz and you appear to fully support Walker. The majority of folks here support one or the other. The debates will add more clarity to who will be best.
What is unfortunate is that we have been tearing down both of our best candidates while subpar candidates, who really need to drop out, are going unscathed. We should all be focussing on pushing those subpar candidates out so our two top guys can have the best shot possible. The way things are going I am getting really concerned we are going to end up with another Bush.
In all candor, I must say I really think the trolls don’t have a chance. Here’s the reason: Cruz is dropping substance left and right. This is the sign of a rare but powerful politician.
The first task of leftist activists is to learn the meaning of the word substance.
“I know that you are often defending abortion, and now you are defending immigration, and using the same inability to reason and see the facts.”
Just because you lack the ability to understand where I am coming from doesn’t mean that’s what I am doing, but in this conversation, yes I am defending legal immigration. It’s not something that I am opposed to, so sue me.
“You do not seem to understand that immigration is what gives the democrat party the votes to run the nation, the pre immigration Americans vote against the democrats.”
You don’t seem to understand that the democrats are running the nation even without the votes.
“Do you think the left would have passed the 1965 Immigration act and fought for immigration for 50 years, if they voted republican?”
I don’t know, but what difference does it make? We voted republican, and what we have is a complete democrat show from start to finish. The only difference between republican and democrat is that the republicans might actually be doing MORE DAMAGE to America than the democrats at this point.
“Do you ever look at the data of who votes how, and who makes up the two different parties?”
There aren’t two parties. There is government. That’s it.
“Why do you think the left knows that as immigration delivers them state after state, that in time it will get all of the states?”
What will definitely get them all states is that there is no opposition party at all.
You might be vexed over what happens to the GOP, but I’m not. I would say that the GOP is completely worthless if it wasn’t so dangerous, so I guess it at least has that negative value ;/
