Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.
Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.
"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.
I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."
"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.
Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.
But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)
Why do I need a cut off number to something I’m not opposed to?
Maybe you need a cut off number since your against it, but I’m not.
I’m opposed to illegal immigration, and my cut off number for that is 1.
Should my mom have been cut off because ansel12 said we have enough? No, I don’t think so.
No, Walker.
FWIW, I support no one at this point.
BTW, you won’t get a number. I asked the same exact question over a decade ago and got no response.
Incredible, you are telling us that there is no population number that would lead you to say enough foreigners have come, to suit you?
I mentioned 3,000 million, and even that is not too many for you?
Screw the French and their libtard statue. The sh!t that floats in from the turd world is killing this country and helping Islam and Chinese totalitarianism win. They are not yearning to be free, they are yearning to become the a-holes they left behind.
So you want the French to set our immigration policy.
I don’t, the democrats love you for your support though, in fact, if immigration ended, the democrats would be finished.
In fact the better question is:
Is there a limit to America’s population?
Are we to envision and encourage an America with a population of a billion people?
The real question is,
can we if 75% of them are foreigners?
You must have been hiding in a cave. Your lack of knowledge on the issue shows. Yes, the MSM including Fox, fail to discuss the issue objectively as do the political and corporate elites, but the American people are increasingly feeling the effects every day. Immigrants are taking their jobs and depressing their wages. The unemployment rate is supposedly going down as people drop out of the workforce with the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years and many others have parttime jobs, the biggest part of employment growth. Wake up and smell the coffee. This is an issue that resonates with most Americans.
You don't think that importing 30 million legal permanent immigrants since 1990 along with having around 2 million guest workers at any one time and 12 to 20 million illegal aliens causes any problems with the employment of American citizens?
Labor Participation Rates
“Secondly, I would push to eliminate affirmative action and minority business set asides...”
Like the very wealthy Chinese guy that I know. I would also suggest a seven year limit (long enough to get one’s business up and running on it’s own). Let the NEXT up and coming minority a chance.
I don’t think you understand the difference between averages and median, and exceptions.
The median marriage age for a period of history is not about you naming an exception or me mentioning my grandmother marrying at age 15, when the median age for marriage at the time was about 22 for females and about 26 for men.
When someone says that “the black vote went democrat”, or that “blacks voted for Obama”, they don’t mean every single one, almost all of us can name exceptions to that fact.
What part of I’m not opposed to legal immigration do you not understand?
But here ansel, just for you.
We can have one.
One legal immigrant every 10 years. How’s that?
No wait, screw that, way too many. We can have one legal immigrant every one hundred years, that way you won’t have to see anymore foreigners before you keel over.
Sound good? Good.
Now go support any candidate that you believe is telling you the truth, because that is what I’m going to do.

Which is what I mean, when is enough enough for our population.
Two hundred million was plenty, now we are at 330 million, and the country is becoming a crowded, grubby, hell hole, and the quality of life is much deteriorating at a very rapid rate, not to mention the increased government control over this vast and fatally diverse population.
If I knew anything about America...
I am not the one to be lectured to..
Both my parents who’s family in early generations immigrated, have family trees that extend way back before, before, the Revolutionary War before there was a United States of America.
We have family members who fought in the Revolutionary War and can trace it back, and are part of the Mothers of the Son of Patriots.
No need to lecture me on If I knew any thing about America.
On my father’s side in early generations they immigrated from Germany in the middle of the 1700s and helped settle York Co. Penmsyvannia.
So too on my mother’s side of the family they came here from England in the 1700s.
Have family trees proof of that.
We have family members who are part of the society of the Mothers of the Patriots.
My great Uncle fought in WWI..
My father’s grand parents, direct relationship to my current family, immigrated from Germany around 1900..
My newfew fought in the battle of Fallujah and got a Purple Heart medal...
No need to lecture me on if I knew anything American, my family helped found this country, helped settle this country and helped built this cointry, and helped defend this country..
What does that mean? Unlimited numbers? You are creating a false straw man. We are discussing curbing legal immigration from the current 1.1 million a year. From 1925 to 1965 we averaged 190,000 a year. In 1970 one in 21 was foreign born; today, it is one in 8, the highest in 90 years; and within a decade it will be one in 7, the highest in our history. In 1970 there were 9.7 million foreign born compared to 41.5 million today. Our population in 1970 was 203 million. Today it is 320 million. We have had an explosion in the numbers of our foreign born population, which has quadrupled over 45 years. Immigrants use welfare to a greater extent than the native born and they vote two to one Democrat.
I thought so, that it was...
Bring me your poor, your huddled masses that yern to breath free...
Agreed 100%. That silly sonnet, however, was not from the Frogs but from a native New Yorker, Emma Lazarus. The statue itself dates back to 1886 and "The New Collosus" was tacked on in 1903. This is what needs to be on that statue since we're underwater with immigrants, especially the third-world types.
Interesting, you will not put any limit on immigration at all, even a population of 3,000 million doesn’t trouble you.
There is no love of America in you guys calling for us to be obliterated by non-Americans in a continuing tidal wave of immigration.
