[Admin note] Title and text changed at source. New title: "Ted Cruz Is Guest of Two Gay Businessmen"Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican presidential candidate, has positioned himself as a strong opponent to same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was ordained by God.
But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.
During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.
The dinner and fireside chat for about a dozen people with Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, was at the Central Park South penthouse of Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, longtime business partners who were once a couple and who have been pioneers in the gay hospitality industry.
Ted Cruz said, If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much, recalled Mr. Reisner, a same-sex marriage proponent who described himself as simply an attendee at Mr. Weiderpasss event.
Mr. Reisner and Kalman Sporn, who advises Mr. Cruzs Middle East team and served as the moderator for the evening, said that the senator told the group that marriage should be left up to the states.
He did not bring up his own opposition to same-sex marriage during the evening, which focused mainly on foreign policy.
An aide to Mr. Cruz, reached on Thursday, reiterated that the senator is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Mr. Cruz has honed his reputation as a grassroots firebrand, who was strongly supportive of the Indiana religious freedom law that was recently blasted as discriminatory by gay rights activists. [snip]

WOW! Cruz would love his daughter if she was gay!!! lost my vote...dolts
Weak, NYT. Very weak.
Leftists are at a loss to explain that Conservatices LOVE THEIR CHILDREN, no matter what. We may not like all they are or all they do, but we LOVE OUR CHILDREN. PERIOD.
If one of my daughters was gay, I would love her just as much. However, whether my children face temptations toward homosexuality, toward adultery, or toward theft, I expect them to place God’s law above their personal desires in all life decisions. Among other reasons to defer to scripture, God’s wisdom leads to far more happiness than I have seen among those who choose homosexuality, adultery, or a life of crime.
It’s called class. You don’t insult someone unnecessarily, especially in their own home. Perhaps due to watching people like Mr. Obama , Sen. Reid and Secretary Clinton, they don’t recognize it.
Being gay is NOT intellectual...
it’s groinal...
Yup. The Prodigal Son’s father certainly loved him jsut as much when his son was squandering his inheritance on strong drink and loose women.
First class journalism there....
Did Cruz say “no problem” or “I love my daughter”.
There’s a big difference between the two.
Really, most of us have no problem with gays being “gay” - over there.
Just don’t try to force us to participate in your perversion or fantasy world and we’ll all live and let live.
Leftists define “love” in this instance as “being 100% accepting of and fully embracing said lifestyle.” Anything less than that is “hate.”
Dude, he said he would love her even if she was gay; same with me if my daughter said the same thing.
I would never not love her, but at the same time not agree with her choice.
The assumption by the NYT is that if one is opposed to a particular behavior, that one hates, or at any rate cannot love, any individual who those who engages in that behavior.
They should stop projecting their own psychological and/or theological shortcomings on to Senator Cruz.
I don’t see any problem with what he said, not any inconsistencies with previous statements.
“Ted Cruz Is Said to..”
wow...does it get any better?
You should probably have your sarcasm detector re-calibrated.
