[Admin note] Title and text changed at source. New title: "Ted Cruz Is Guest of Two Gay Businessmen"Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican presidential candidate, has positioned himself as a strong opponent to same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was ordained by God.
But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.
During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.
The dinner and fireside chat for about a dozen people with Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, was at the Central Park South penthouse of Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, longtime business partners who were once a couple and who have been pioneers in the gay hospitality industry.
Ted Cruz said, If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much, recalled Mr. Reisner, a same-sex marriage proponent who described himself as simply an attendee at Mr. Weiderpasss event.
Mr. Reisner and Kalman Sporn, who advises Mr. Cruzs Middle East team and served as the moderator for the evening, said that the senator told the group that marriage should be left up to the states.
He did not bring up his own opposition to same-sex marriage during the evening, which focused mainly on foreign policy.
An aide to Mr. Cruz, reached on Thursday, reiterated that the senator is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Mr. Cruz has honed his reputation as a grassroots firebrand, who was strongly supportive of the Indiana religious freedom law that was recently blasted as discriminatory by gay rights activists. [snip]

My husband would be very dismayed to find out that a complete stranger is convinced that I’m flirting with another complete stranger by using a winking emoticon in a reply.
So that there is no further misunderstanding, the above sentence in sarcasm. Though, in my opinion, having to state such takes away from “casm” portion of the statement.
[[It is obvious it is the gay person saying that and not Cruz.]]
True, I brought this fact up in a previous post-
[[If you are taken in by this gay person misconstruing Cruz’s words, you might as well not be for Cruz because this is going to happen zillions of time before the presidential election.]]
Have you got proof he has misconstrued Cruz’s words? or are you misconstruing what He said? I’m not defending him, I’m just stating that IF Ted really did tell him that- then it’s a bit concerning-
[[You need to learn about Cruz the man.]]
I AM trying to learn about Ted the man- and IF it is true that he said that to the fella, then again, I find it a bit disturbing- IF it’s NOT true- then as I said, shame on NYT and that man
[[Go to his website and read about him.]]
I get his email periodicals
[[and don’t take the word of his enemies, and gays are his enemies, along with every other kind of freaking liberal.]]
Yep that’s true-
[[Cruz has made it clear before that marriage is only between a man and woman.]]
That wasn’t what the issue was about- it is about how he would feel if his daughter were gay- We have someone telling us that Ted told Him he would be fine with it- whether this is true or not needs to be clarified- it’s NOT an unreasonable request to ask for clarification because this is a pretty big issue that concerns conservatives- and the proper answer ‘would have been’ “No of course I wouldn’t be fine with the fact that a daughter of mine has chosen a destructive lifestyle, no more than I’d be fine with a daughter of mine choosing a life of heroine addiction, However, I would still love her and encourage her always to open her eyes and see the tragic mistake she had made”
But instead, there is the POSSIBILITY that Ted said he would be fine with it, and that is a bit concerning- and I think people have a right to be a bit concerned and to ask for clarification on such an important conservative issue
BOB434 ? I agree with you on predestination and election...
Election and predestination is biblical Christian doctrine..
I am not a Universalist, or Arminiean, or however they spell it..
I agree with predestination and election..
But even those elect were sinners...
We do not know who are the tares and who are the wheat, only God knows those who are his... The elect..
I never thought or said you were flirting with ME. Thought it might be with someone you’ve had your FReeper eye on. How would I know what your wink means!
"Marriage Was God's Idea, And He Will Preserve It, With or Without Us"
LOL
[[I am not a Universalist, or Arminiean]]
Me either, but I do lean towards election- but it’s not important enough an issue that I will fall on my sword if it turns out, or that I discover that election isn’t true- The Good News is the most important biblical issue to me- and even if election is true, we don’t know who the elect are and who aren’t (But I lean towards the idea that those who are elect WILL be saved no matter what- which means they will be saved even If I fail to preach salvation to them simply because none of Christ’s sheep will be lost- so if I fail to give them the word of salvation, they will someday find it somehow, perhaps just a song they hear passing a church, or a flier that hits home to them or whatever- but this is a whole different lengthy topic with good arguments for both sides of the issue
[[But even those elect were sinners...]]
Yep- but they are sinners who’s hearts God knows will accept Him- whereas the unelect have Hearts He knows will never accept Him therefore He can’t love them
there are good arguments for both sides- and I’ve seen deep well thought out arguments from both camps- but for now I’m a bit more persuaded by the argument that “For God so loved HIS OWN” argument, as apparently the original greek seems to indicate that as do various verses throughout His word, but again, strong arguments can be made for the idea that “God so loved ALL the world” too-
It’s hard to know for certain
[[We do not know who are the tares and who are the wheat,]]
God actually does tell us how to know in many cases and tells us we need to test the spirits so that we will not be duped by those pretending to be Christians but who aren’t.. But when it comes to who ‘might be saved In the future’ you are correct, we can’t in most cases know, however, we CAN know when someone becomes an apostate- and those folks are never given another chance to be saved Because they were ‘almost to the point of salvation’ Yet at the last second they rejected it and turned to the evil one and blasphemed the Holy Spirit in so doing.
You too. I know you were in quite a while too. Have a great one. Tell your wife I said hello too please.
Thanks Catherine- I’;; check that out tonight- I appreciate you looking that up for me-
“We have someone telling us that Ted told Him he would be fine with it- whether this is true or not needs to be clarified- its NOT an unreasonable request to ask for clarification because this is a pretty big issue that concerns conservatives- and the proper answer would have been...”
No, Ted can’t speak to every misconstrued wording millions of people come up with - if he did, he wouldn’t do anything but respond. You have to be smart enough to know where Ted stands because he has stated what he believes.
You have even come up with a thought out reply YOU think he should have given except you are basing that on what the gay person “said” Ted said, which he didn’t.
Catherine of Aragon has nailed it for you:
“This is Ted Cruz on homosexual “marriage.”
“Marriage Was God’s Idea, And He Will Preserve It, With or Without Us””
That is a direct quote from Cruz. If all these words I have written and now Catherine has written, hasn’t convinced you what Ted actually said (and believes), then you are too easily swayed by liberal talk and will be disappointed every day by believing their words to the point you doubt your candidate’s position.
He said that he would have no problem and that would be my response as well, I would still love my child if he or she was gay. The question did not ask if he would approve or disapprove of Gay marriage. They are two different subjects.
And *I* never accused you of thinking I was flirting with you. What I do think you’ve been doing all thread is trying to stir up trouble with whomever you can. I ain’t interested. Thanks though. You can move along to someone else who may be. I’m sure it won’t be difficult to find a more willing partner.
You’re welcome.
I saw it posted here yesterday, and I bookmarked it. I have friends who are GOP-e, and who think that anyone with an “R” after his name is an automatic good guy. I want to show them what a true good guy looks like.
We’re just getting started, and Ted Cruz scares these rats so badly...they’re going to try anything and everything to ruin him. No lie will be beneath them.
I think you put it best, Marcella...we need to get to know our candidate so that we’ll recognize what is authentic, and what isn’t.
And we should also keep in mind that this time we have a man who isn’t cowed by leftist vermin, who won’t play their games, and who actually welcomes the fight.
They don’t know what they’re in for, because he’s countless times smarter than any of them.
You’ve been having trouble since post #28 being cordial to others. Now you’ve been called out on it and are doubling down. Many, including Catherin, were correct in their initial assessment of you. That Catherine apologized demonstrates her grace in dealing with a certain type of person; a grace that regrettably I lack with those same people.
Good for you for being useful. If I were able I’d buy you a lollipop, give you a gold star and a pat on the head. Good luck in your work getting your candidate elected, I like him too.
Well .. that’s pretty stupid.
I loved my own child even though he was a drug addict .. and it killed him at the age of 37.
To say Cruz is out because he loves his child ..?????
You’re the DOLT ..!!!!!
