Wellness author admits cancer diagnosis not true
ABC (Australia) ^ | 22 Apr 2015 | Unknown

Posted on 04/23/2015 8:30:05 AM PDT by Izzy Dunne

Wellness advocate Belle Gibson, who translated her high profile as a cancer survivor into publishing success, has admitted her cancer diagnosis was not real.

Ms Gibson, 23, who claimed to have healed terminal brain cancer by eating wholefoods, made the admission in an interview with the Australian Women's Weekly.

The success of Gibson's book, The Whole Pantry, and her smartphone application, which advocates natural therapies, has been largely dependent on her high-profile as a cancer survivor.

Asked if she had ever had cancer, Ms Gibson told the magazine: "No. None of it's true.

"I don't want forgiveness. I just think [speaking out] was the responsible thing.

"Above anything, I would like people to say 'OK, she's human'."

There were also allegations that promised donations to charities had not been paid by the company she founded, The Whole Pantry.

In a statement published on the company's Facebook page, The Whole Pantry admitted cash flow problems.

"All remaining promised donations and support will be honoured as soon as the finances are in order," it said in a post last month.

Publisher Penguin Random House stopped printing The Whole Pantry in March amid uncertainty around whether Ms Gibson had cancer.

The Whole Pantry recipe book was released in Australia last year and was scheduled to be launched in the USA and England this month.

Is she pretty? If so all will be forgiven.

Just like a false claim of rape damages the cases of true claims, false claims of cancer cast aspersions on true claims. This just makes me sick. If I had not had the prayer support of my internet prayer warriors, what would I have done?????? I didn’t need financial support, although I know some do. I was so blessed to have good coverage, this time even better than the first cancer and chemo. What about those that are desperate and not covered by good insurance(s)????? Damn this evil woman. I feel so strongly against this evil mess she’s created.

I hear ya’, Shimmer1. Unfortunately, this type of thing seems to be very common.

I’ve known people like this. One person I knew was over the top about it. (Munchausen’s, maybe?) Once I caught on, I started to distance myself from this person... And then I was the one who got sick. For real. And I never heard from that person again. lol

Later I found out that all the “medicines” that person was claiming to have to take were actually over-the-counter vitamins.

I’ve heard other survivors complain about coworkers they know are lying. One woman said her coworker told their boss that her doctor called for her to go in for “emergency chemo,” so she had to leave early that day. The woman said she could tell her coworker was lying, but what could she say?

This is more than annoying. Punishment needs to follow. I've been working hard to get back to 110 pounds after radiation therapy that was UGLY. There is no magic bullet.

Her lying about it, just so she can sell her ideas is very maddening.

I'm so angry about it that I'm probably irrational about it.

Oh.My.word. emergency chemo. (banging head on desk) I tend to underreport, because things have just been so darn horrible, who wants to hear all that, all the time?????
Getting better now though, finally. It’s only taken 7 months!!!!! (four and a half months of chemo)

I know you’ve been through a nightmare. I hope things are looking up now. If I remember correctly, you’re expecting a special visit soon. That should make you feel even better. :-)

And hopefully, you will keep improving.

While waiting for the Doc this last week, one of the guys I know from the waiting room came back out and he was clear of the lung cancer.

Of course, they had caught his early and it hadn't spread.

If I look healthy enough and gain enough weight, I'll get to finally get to chemo Friday for my lungs. The radiation was just for my brain cancer, since my lung cancer sat there untreated for a few years.

I was so glad to hear that my waiting room bud had been declared cleared, and there were a lot of "Thank You, Jesus" from around the room.

None of those guys were faking it like this bint.

I am sure it is good roughage for the colon:)

Folks have to be careful with these modern day ‘shamans’ offering easy ways to beat the #1 killer, cancer.

Good nutrition, good foods and an active healthy living can help people prevent some of the most vexing health problems like heart disease, cancer and others. The operative word is ‘help prevent’ not cure. Then again a lot of healthy people get cancer for no known reason at all other than it is ‘scripted’ in their DNA. If someone in the family ‘gene pool’ had cancer, chances are one is at higher risk for the same.

These modern day 'shamans' are the modern day snake oil salesmen. Hang in there...I will lift you up in prayer for your speedy return to strength. You are right there is no 'magic bullet.'

Good nutrition, good foods and an active healthy living

And people have to be careful with that to not come off as annoying as heck.

There is no one answer for everyone for good nutrition, good food, and exersize.

You can bet that if I'm getting 4000 calories a day there is what some so-called 'junk food' in my diet. If it keeps me alive and gaining weight, those that don't like my diet can pound sand.

Fortunately, I've graduated from 2 culinary schools and have mainly been able to cook for myself. I know, for me, what I need, and I resent those that are SURE they have the answer that will save my life.

Especially those that aren't and haven't been sick.

Let them experiment with their own lives, and stay out of mine.

Not jumping on you, just venting about what I see a lot of.

I understand the venting. Had someone sending me nutrition books when my son was going through chemo for leukemia. First thought was "does this person think my son got leukemia from a bad diet?" I am sure that was not the intent but to give us some ideas on how my son could eat certain foods to help him recover from chemo. So yeah, folks have to be careful how 'advice' is received.

Another guy told me to take my son off chemo and use all natural sources. I asked him nicely for the medical studies on people who did this for their children....silence. What nut of a parent is going to experiment on their kids if carrot juice kills cancer cells? None that I know of.

Yes, the 'experts' all come out when someone ELSE is sick.

I hear you.

And cancer isn't cancer. There are many different types that people don't take into account.

And differing situations. Someone with teeth can eat stuff I can't. That was operative before treatment started. When people lose weight, suddenly, not only do their pants not fit anymore... their teeth don't fit right anymore. People with teeth tend to have NO clue about that.

Anyway.. I'm just ranting and POed with unthinking people that really do have the best in mind.

It's very difficult for me to be nice, even though people really do care and are sincere.

I miss out on seeing the concern and go directly for the clueless BS they are sincerely putting out.

Grump.. LOL!

Oh I'm done with chemo now! I'm just waiting for it to get out of my system, to get better. Here's what happened today though. .....

Okay I have news of a different sort today. Today I felt okay so I decided to go to the corner store. I got out of my house and went to my car and all was well, and then I walked a few more feet to the garbage can by the road and all was well...I look down the road and I started walking. My friend Veronica that has brought me food and cleaned my house lives abiyt a hundred or so feet down from me. I walked it. I have not walked more than a few feet without wanting to fall down in many months, but I walked to her house. I knocked on it she came out, We laughed and hugged and I cried, I was so happy and then guess what I did, I walked home! It's probably 100 feet each way or more no more maybe hundred 25 each way. And I did it and you know what else I'm not exhausted! Every day well every other day I get better a little bit better each time

You're too late! My chemo ended several weeks ago!! I'm so happy! I'm getting a bit better every day. Let me share what I posted today on FB. Every day has been so-so, a bit better, but then today:
