Painful as it is to realize that both the Democrats and the Republicans will still be holding their primaries a year from now, that is one of the high prices we pay for democracy.
Seldom does the initial "front-runner" in either party's primaries end up being the actual candidate when election day rolls around. However, even if we cannot predict the outcomes of the primaries this far in advance, we can at least start trying to understand the candidates, the almost candidates and the people who are running just for the publicity.
One of the curious things this early in the process is that, while the Republicans' three freshmen Senators Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have all had interviews on various television talk shows, veteran politician Hillary Clinton has been hiding out from real interviews by hard news reporters, as if she is afraid to be cross-examined.
This is by no means an irrational fear on Mrs. Clinton's part. There are all sorts of questions that she would find hard to answer. They range from questions about recent events like the e-mails from her days as Secretary of State that she destroyed illegally, after Congress called for her to produce them, to the still unsolved mystery as to what she and Barack Obama were doing during the hours when four Americans, including our ambassador to Libya, were under attack by terrorists in Benghazi.
Then there are the bald-faced lies, such as Mrs. Clinton's claim to have been shot at in a war zone, her claim that she and her husband were "poor" at the end of his terms as president, and her claim that charges of sexual misconduct against Bill Clinton in the White House were fictions invented by a "vast right-wing conspiracy."

Mr. Sowell, when did this EVER happen?
Yep, she’s always been AWOL.
I just can’t believe that Hillary is considered inevitable and that she may not face serious opposition for the Dem nomination.
There seems to be a lack of enthusiasm by some Democrats for Hillary, yet at the same time, apparently many Democrats are afraid to run against her. Seems like a contradiction.
Talk about a government whore ... Hillary is the epitome. And she traipses around on her latest "listening" tour like she gives a shit about American citizens.
I agree and with her and Bill’s baggage still can’t believe she’s running.
Sowell is the greatest black writer and thinker in our beloved country . He is dead on again. Because the left in our party rigged the primaries to “Winner Take All” we will get the “Mushy Middle” as Dr Sowell says perfectly. Why are we not changing the rules ? Have we become cowards in the face of government tax audits and media spin. Why are we not attending rules committee meetings and demanding “run-off” elections. I know that the karl roves and haley barbour and the john cornyns will pay socialist to come vote in our run off only but maybe we will not stand for it. STOP WINNER TAKE ALL!!!
Open primaries are just as bad
Ted’s accomplishments as Attorney General in Texas surpass anything Hillary has ever done.
I’d bet my last dime Sowell will have plenty to say about Hillary in the coming months about all of her treasonous acts.
Thanks Karl. I disrespectfully disagree. Why should McCain get the nomination with 67% of the party detesting the amnesty loving jerk and 7 million staying home in the general election . Let those socialist “hold their nose” for OUR real conservative candidate.
Some very powerful sources, both here and abroad, are supporting her. They see her as someone with which they can do business.
Bump
Sorry but I won’t be following Sowell on the establishment train.
Unless I’m reading him incorrectly, Sowell is against Cruz.
“Barack Obama has already given us repeated demonstrations of what a mess a freshman Senator with rhetoric can make in the White House.”
This is a false premise. It assumes the reason Obama is such a bad President is that he was unseasoned having spent just a few years as a senator. The truth is, he’s a hard core leftist and if he were in the senate 20 years he’d still be this bad because his world view and his approach to the role of government are big government leftist.
It has nothing to do with his lack of governing experience and that same lack of experience should not be held against Cruz or Rubio or Paul. Their actions, their words and their stances on issues are what matter.
Dr. Sowell is for an open primary. helaments Bush an Christie on one end and conservative (12) on the other because the system is rigged.
