Looking back 10 years later, Jeb Bush said Friday he would not have handled the Terri Schiavo saga any differently.
I dont think I would have changed anything, the former Florida governor told a woman who asked him about the case at a Politics and Eggs event put on by Saint Anselm Colleges Institute of Politics.
Bush, gearing up for his presidential campaign, has faced renewed scrutiny over his role in the prolonged controversy from 2003 to 2005, during which a brain-dead woman from the Tampa Bay area became the subject of a contentious legal fight between her parents and her husband over whether to keep her on life support. Bush sided with the parents, who wanted to maintain a feeding tube. Ultimately the husband who remains deeply resentful of Bush prevailed at the Supreme Court.
I stayed within the Constitutional responsibilities or authority that I had, Bush told the crowd of local business leaders. We changed the law first, and a year later it was ruled unconstitutional. Then basically we didnt have the ability to do anything. The federal government tried to intervene, and that was also ruled unconstitutional.
So she starved to death, he went on, turning somber.

” Nonsense, they do it all the time. Governors DO have the authority to provide the support necessary to enforce Congressional subpoenas.
Governors DO have the authority to call out the state militia to enforce the peace.
Governors DO have the authority to call out the state militia to execute state law (Terri’s law).”
Well stated, Wags!
So she starved to death, he went on, turning somber.

Fraud.

Agreed.
Pity. Reagan was a schmoozer.
Jeb was pressured by the moneybags RINOS to change his course from 2003 to his 2005 manipulation of the public through the media and to actually be on the side of the husband under the radar. It was a big charade and Terri was murdered for RINOS and for Ambassador Sembler (big time GOP from Pinellas County), Italian ambassador who were counting on Terri being murdered for their activist judges and for Michael Schiavo.

Terri was tortured to death so that others would fall for Living Wills and then grant permission to be tortured themselves someday without realizing that once you sign your right to life away, your wishes may not be granted at all but you have signed your life away thinking there’s no pain or suffering. (if comatose with no brain waves and no ability to breathe without being “plugged in”, that is different than starving and dehydrating a living creature to death. Living Wills are really self executed death sentences. It is doublespeak. There are other wills that offer better protections than what the pimps pushing Living Wills provide.
The state troopers were on their way, Jeb chickened out and they turned back around. When big brother George W. cancelled a Coast Guard copter to get her outta there while pretending to be on Terri’s side on Palm Sunday, I became NPA. Brothers both killed her. It was a big charade.
Well, we don’t have to worry about Jebediah starving to death. That would take years.
Poppin’ Fresh Junior is in soviet Red Hampshire...he needs to sound like a Democrat to get them to cross over and vote for him in the OPEN GOP primary next year.
LOL!
It is “Red” Hampshire, overrun by MA folk and New Yorkers too. Probably some Quebec-ers have come in too.
You nailed it.
Well, I was right there as these rescues were cancelled in real time. I was on the media side. Jeb was using the media just like a good dictator might.
The Terry Schiavo affair was when I realized what a 98 lb weakling Jeb Bush is. What a weasel he is. I was neutral on him and considered him better that having a Democrat governor screw up Florida
“Jeb was using the media just like a good dictator might.”
Thanks. I figured as much.
“And I take it you would be just fine if a politician named Clinton or Obama defied a court order to follow his/her own conscience on what was constitutional?”
If the order was to starve and dehydrate an innocent person to death, it is our moral obligation to try and stop it. This was the first time we had a State directly call for an innocent person’s murder.
