BRANDON FL (WFLA) - Walmart customers can't understand what's plaguing the "plumbing problems" of Walmart stores from Brandon to California.
"Must be a major plumbing problem is all I can say," would-be customer Dale White said as security guards turned him away from the Supercenter on Brandon Boulevard in Brandon.
The retail chain announced Monday that five stores are shutting down - one in Brandon, two in Texas, one in Oklahoma and one in California - due to clogging and drainage problems. ...
The shutdown blindsided about 400 Brandon Walmart workers who must now find another store to transfer to or receive 60-days pay for the loss of their jobs.
However, 8 On Your Side has found no paperwork and no work done on the plumbing. According to Hillsborough County, Walmart didn't notify the county's permit department either. No one there has heard a peep from Walmart about any major repairs. ...

Posted the other night. Yes, a systematic engineering defect is unusual, and that many replications more so, but not unprecedented. Some employees do confirm chronic plumbing problems.

They just gave all employees a raise so maybe they needed to close a few stores to keep labor costs down.

The Walmart on Admiral and Memorial Drive closed for repairs Monday night. Tuesday afternoon, customers were still trying to get in.
The message about the repairs may not have made it to all the customers, but for employees like Dane Humphreys, it was loud and clear.
"There are a lot of things that don't seem right to me," said Humphreys.
Erica Jones with Walmart said the store was closed because of ongoing water leaks within the store. Jones said they don't know the exact cause of the leaks, but they want to make sure they get them fixed right.
"So when they do some very extensive repairs, they make sure we don't have to come back to this," said Jones.
Walmart closed a total of five stores Nationwide on the same day, Including stores in Texas.
Employees were at the store Tuesday cleaning and preparing for the repairs. Jones said the perishable food left over after the close will be donated to a local food bank.
No word on exactly how long the store will be closed, but Jones said it could be six months or so.
Jones said she wasn't sure when the decision was made to close the store, but Walmart officials notified employees of the closing around 1 p.m. Monday.The store closed at 7 that same night.
Humphreys said he wishes the store would have given employees a bit more notice.
"I came in for my shift yesterday around 2, and was told the store is closing," sad Humphreys.
Jones said employees will be paid for the next 60 days with the option to transfer to another store.
"At the end of the sixty days, if they still don't have a position, they will be given a severance package based on how long they were with the company," said Jones.
Humphreys said there are many employees at the store who don't have good transportation, so getting to another store will be difficult.
Walmart will hold job fairs for the employees, along with resume writing assistance.
Jones said when the store does reopen, all employees will have to reapply.
It won’t be plumbers doing most of the work — various contractors needed to rip out channels through the concrete of the main floor, excavate, and rebuild everything afterward. Chain will no doubt include a remodel of these stores.

Well, the plumbing in my house is doing about the same thing. May have to do a little concrete cutting.
For sure. It will take some time just to clear out the inventory and fixtures before the concrete cutting starts. Then resetting the store back up after the work is done. I’m surprised the problem is quite limited, big chains tend to recycle prints/plans from location to location.
let me know if the project goes beyond four or five months...
