We conservatives have countless beefs with Chris Matthews. But in contrast with the younger generation of liberals inhabiting MSNBC, the American left at largeand the Oval OfficeMatthews is more of an old-school Cold Warrior, and, dare I say it, a patriot.
And so it was that on this evening's Hardball, Matthews flatly declared "I hate" the Castro regime. How many other denizens of the leftfrom Rachel Maddow to Barack Obamacan you imagine saying the same? Matthews thus aligns himself more closely with Ronald "Evil Empire" Reagan than with Barack Obama, who just today was hailed by Tom Friedman for being able to see America from Iran's perspective.

The core ideas are the same but Obama's unique mix of Islamo-Socialism is potentially more dangerous.
He has the approval 1.6 billion muslims and little to impede him in the US and elsewhere.
The western democracies were the offset to Hitler, Stalin and Mao. But now half the populations of Britain, Europe and the USA seem to have lost their wits and their guts, except when it comes to bullying the 6 million Jews in Israel.
They no longer seem to have the ability to discriminate between right and wrong, evil and good.
And they are like country bumkins at their first carnival when it comes to falling for shysters like Obama, Hillary, and the Islamic jihadis.
In my younger days I was a Dem but I was also one of those “cold warriors”. While the rest of my “peers” were McGovern types, I was more of a Scoop Jackson Democrat.
What views does Dennis Prager hold that you would not deem conservative?
Whoop-de-doo.
Matthews is a baby-killer who claims to be a Catholic, which is an act of blasphemy so wicked it can hardly be fathomed by a non-demonic person.
And 95% of the Catholic bishops in this country insist that these demonic people must be given Communion.
Don’t pick on Charles Krauthammer and Dennis Prager. Ronald Reagan used to be a Democrat also.
Interestingly the sunni even wahabi have come to understand either they stand with the west or die, which is modernization at its beginning. The only upside of bambi’s fecklessness, is getting the 90% of muslims to understand the only way to get a better life is to grow up. Shia (Persians) don’t care(rulers any way) they desire death. So the coming storm (after 1/21/2017) will see the jews, Saudis, emerits and Egypt trying to stop iran. The question is will Russia and iran have hooked up. Now for the $64000 will bambi pre position counter rocket/aircraft and provide training and quick access to Ukraine for anti armor systems.
Bit of a stretch. Maybe a patriot whenever it doesn't interfere with his paycheck.
Matthews is only trying to position himself. He thinks it scores him points that he can later cash in.
This doesn’t make any sense..
HOW can you “hate” the Castro regime but ADORE the obama regime???
Then again, I know Coke lovers who hate Pepsi...
You must all remember that out of the deck of cards the Joker has now entered the game. Politics with Hilarious means that nothing will be the same, even Christy Matthews.
“Dont pick on Charles Krauthammer and Dennis Prager. Ronald Reagan used to be a Democrat also.”
Describing them isn’t “picking on them.”
Krauthammer was Walter Mondale’s speechwriter in 1984 as he tried to defeat Ronald Reagan’s re-election. I’ve yet to hear him call that an error.
I’ve listened to Prager since he first showed up on LA radio with Religion on the Line. For years Dennis corrected callers’ mis-impressions that he is a conservative. He correctly told them that he is a 1960’s Cold War liberal. After years of this he just accepted the idea that he had been magically converted into a conservative despite never changing his beliefs.
He might have Alzheimer’s.
How can yo hate Castro and tingle over HUSSEIN BARAKA THE EVIL ONE?
“What views does Dennis Prager hold that you would not deem conservative?”
His support of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and other bills spawned from it. That Lyndon Johnson masterpiece was the major piece of legislation that to this day has allowed politicians to engage in social engineering. If you want to know how and why the government can today order you to accept gay marriage the genesis of that power is in that act.
This threat was recognized by conservatives of the day who understood that it included the power to order individual Americans what to believe. One of the risks of freedom is that your neighbor might hold opinions you find abhorrent. Two of the conservative luminaries who spoke out against this bill because it was a threat to personal freedom were Barry Goldwater and his ardent supporter Ronald Reagan.
Dennis also holds one of the most extreme views on immigration I’ve ever heard. He gives Jeb Bush a run for the money. He’s for dramatically increasing the amount of legal immigration into the United States. If massive immigration from the 3rd world permanently transforms the nature of the American people, well, who’s to say there is problem with it? Certainly not Dennis.
And there’s his ideas on race. Political Correctness isn’t PC enough for old Dennis. The sort of sardonic common sense posting that goes on here at FR on some of the crime threads would have Dennis denouncing the place as a hotbed of racism. According to the Dennis theory of the world there isn’t the slightest correlation between ethnicity and behavior, and to speak otherwise about it isn’t a mistake, it’s evil.
As for immigration, I'm for having it unlimited. Just no welfare and no ballots in other languages, etc.
I don't think race has a basis on behavior either, at least not in the sense of DNA passed on to children. Culture does matter, and some subgroups in this country have a real problem.
“As for immigration, I’m for having it unlimited. Just no welfare and no ballots in other languages, etc.”
Well that’s nice, but go back and watch the debates over the 1965 Immigration Act and you’ll find that you are far to the left of even Teddy Kennedy with that position.
No one, no matter how liberal, argued that view. In fact Teddy promised that his bill wouldn’t increase the number of immigrants at all.
America has a culture and it gets passed on within families. Drowning that culture in a tidal wave of immigration changes the nation to the culture of the incoming group.
And the reality is that we have had welfare since the beginning of the country. It was just more local earlier. I think what you are arguing here is a utopian libertarian position that ignores reality and pretends that there can be a society that doesn’t provide welfare.
Dennis
Like Krauthammer and Boortz and Medved ...all lite on culture
Levin is a mixed bag
Much more culture warrior but drinks Kool aid on most race tinged history
You have to wonder though how can he ignore empirical stuff like u just elucidated about Magnus and the 64 act
He worships Ronnie rightly so
Very few public conservatives who have nuts to denounce the 64 CRA
The other leg is tingling?
But Chris, Fidel is Obamas idol. Cuba is his political model.
What I’m arguing for is assimilation. Church welfare is one thing, the government dole is another. If schools and society taught American values and ditched the absurd notion of the value of diversity, I’m quite confident that the country could handle all who wanted to come. Sure, bar the sick, the criminals, but send out notice. If you want to work, come.
Call me leftist if you wish. I tell everyone I’m practically a fascist.
Russia is in it to gain influence and cultivate a client state - and tease the west.
Putin wants to return Russia to its status of 1983 when it was a world superpower, not 1943 when it was a war ravaged derelict.
But If it actually ever came down to war with Iran tht could possible expand on to Russian soil I believe Putin would throw Iran under the bus without a second thought.
Of course, how far he would go before doing that would be determined by any number of things, including who the American President was at the time.
If it was Obama, drawing another Red Line, Putin would probably go to the wall. If it was Ted Cruz he would bail out much earlier.
