I read the account of a US navy ship then at sea:
When they got the news of FDR’s death via radio, the entire crew of the ship exploded with raucous cheering and deliriously happy laughter.
Really amazing.
Personally, I wouldn’t blame them much.
He should have died at the hands of Giuseppe Zangara.
America would be a better place today.
That seems very unlikely, but if you can find a link ...
From the replies so far visitors from other sites are going to get the idea that freerepublic.com is not a hotbed of New Dealers. They will be correct.
Why would Hillary pick this date to announce her candidacy? Another death in the Democrat party?
Well, we might have gotten Henry Wallace as President. What would have happened then?
One term and then another chance for pro-American politicians to run.
I was almost five years old when the announcement of Roosevelt’s death came across the radio in Dallas. I was playing with toys in the bedroom while my folks were socializing with some friends in our kitchen.
Somehow I knew that it was an important announcement and I went into the kitchen and told them about it. They didn’t believe me at first, but finally listened to the radio and heard the repeating announcements and follow ups. Their grieving reaction cemented the moment in my mind forever.
Yes, and the Republicans would have run Dewey or La Guardia. La Guardia would have been a disaster. I am not a fan of FDR, but I don’t believe in rolling dice with history.
“Why would Hillary pick this date to announce her candidacy? Another death in the Democrat party?”
Hillary was channeling Eleanor.
Wallace would have surrendered even more of Europe to the Soviets, and South Korea to the Chinese, for starters.
Wallace, running as a third party, nearly cost Truman the ‘48 election. Wallace, surprisingly enough, was a strong proponent of the creation of the State of Israel, and it was probably as a result of his pressure that Truman recognized the State of Israel during a presidential election year.
Shortly after FDR's death, a woman accosted him in the post office and declared "Wouldn't you say he died for his country every bit as much as out boys in uniform?"
Grandpa, who'd lost one son during the war and had two about to invade Okinawa (my Dad on a navy ship landing craft and my uncle as marine on a similar craft) tried to ignore her, but she persisted.
"Wouldn't you say he died for his country every bit as much as out boys in uniform?"
Grandpa finally had enough and turned to her and said "I suppose so, but he should've done it at least five years earlier!"
FDR’s longtime mistress, Lucy Mercer Rutherfurd, was with him in Warm Springs, Georgia, when he died of a stroke, having been given access by Anna, FDR’s daughter, without her mother’s knowledge. Afterwards, Anna and Lucy hightailed it out of Warm Springs; however Eleanor and media elitists found out, but the public was not informed for many years.
Immorality, infidelity, double-crossing, betrayal, scandal, death, and a fifth-column leftist media! An appropriate time for HelLIARy to announce her demonic scheme.
Hitler died 18 days later.
If she waited until next weekend, her announcement would go unnoticed by her closest supporters due to celebrations of the Waco slaughter and preparations for Lenin's birthday.
Japanese internment camps
Packing the Supreme Court
IRS political audits against enemy media

Gold confiscation
Election fraud via union bullying
Shut down immigration for German Jews
Broke with tradition and ran for 3rd term.
The guy was a vindictive Machiavellian dictator. There’s nothing special, honorable or worthy about that.
