Hillary Clinton would make a fine US president, Barack Obama said on the eve of the expected launch of her candidacy for the Democratic Party's nod in 2016.
Obama beat Clinton - who is vying to become the first woman president of the United States - for their party's nomination in 2008 after a gruelling campaign. He then won re-election four years later.
'She was a formidable candidate in 2008. She was a great supporter of mine in the general election. She was an outstanding secretary of state. She is my friend,' Obama said at a regional summit in Panama on Saturday.
'I think she would be an excellent president.'Several US media reports, citing sources in Clinton's campaign team, said the 67-year-old was likely to announce her candidacy for the Democratic nomination on Sunday.
The former first lady is expected to be the clear Democratic frontrunner in the race to succeed Obama. The wife of former president Bill Clinton leads opinion polls among Democrats, some 60 per cent of whom say they would vote for her in the primaries, according to the website RealClearPolitics.
Two other potential candidates - Senator Elizabeth Warren and Vice President Joe Biden - have not yet said they intend to run.
On the Republican side, Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have already thrown their hats into the ring, with more candidates likely to follow - including Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida, brother to president George W Bush and son of president George HW Bush.
A series of polls this year have consistently placed Clinton ahead of every one of her potential Republican challengers, although the gap has narrowed in recent weeks.
kiss of death if you ask me..
Part of the plan.
Duh! ‘YOU WILL STAY SILENT OR I WILL DESTROY YOU AS IF YOU ARE A REPUBLICAN’!
The Hildebeast is toast!
Frankly, I think they are both “full of sh*t.” Time for a REAL man/woman to represent us, as I am fed up with these pseudo elitists who want to control every aspect of our lives to their benefit and our detriment.
It's a done deal now...
Hillary tries to distance herself away from Obama.
Obama pushes the Hillary email scandal.
Hillary says she wants to be an Obama third term.
Obama endorses Hillary.
Did he endorse any lib running in 2014? If so, it didnt matter.
And he endorsed Adolf Hitler for Vice President I dont know why anyone would be surprised
Obama’s at least consistent - the lying liar.
I wonder who the RATS really intend to run. I guess they’re letting the panic build up in the base so whomever they anoint in six months will be met with fainting relief from the left’s useful idiots.
That's what they did in '08.
Dang, the page on this thread hadn’t even loaded when my first response was same as yours.
Nope, Barry wants Liz. Which should also be the kiss of death. In fact, anyone with a D after their name “should “ be the kiss of death.
kiss of death if you ask me..
Part of the plan.
Yep, he’s going to expect her to defend his disaster.
Well in the way he picked his brackets and sided with Kentucky to win, Hillary is toast.
Now he can say “I was the first to endorse her, whaddya mean I’m not supportive”? Then of course he will do everything he can to advance Liz Warren as the stalking horse who will rob Hillary again, just like he did in 2008.
If Obama was Pinocchio , his nose would reach to Alpha Centauri.
My exact thought
Anything 0bama touches or endorses just crumbles
The last thing Obama wants is a Democrat in the Whitehouse in 2016.
No he doesn't. Or I should say he doesn't care either way who is the candidate.
BUT VALERIE JARRET cares.
Hillary , if elected, will have Cheryl Mills as 'senior adviser'. Warren has met with Jarrett and promised to keep Jarrett on, should Warren win.
That’s what they did in ‘08.
