Notice that when Linda reaches for that High C, she doesn't quite hit it on the nose.

In the instrumental middle eight, the sax player blows a sour note, which throws off the piano, who throws off the drummer. Almost a train wreck. Recorded in an airplane hangar in Portland (OR). (Rose Murphy wasn't bad looking.)

At 2:50, Gary Puckett's voice splatters when he reaches for a High G and doesn't make it. He was too new to the game for Columbia to re-record it. Later, when it became a hit, he did in fact re-record it, and held the high note.

He's six-years old in that photo, and already was an International sensation - touring Europe at age seven. Second only to movie star Jackie Coogan, "Traps" was the second highest paid child star in the world, debuting in Vaudeville at age 18 months. The grueling Vaudeville routine (often 3 shows a day) robbed Bernard Rich of a normal childhood and the early fame led to many torments and strained relationships throughout his life, but his natural talent outlasted the novelties of his peers and he sustained his career through hardships and illness until his death of heart failure following surgery for a malignant brain tumor in 1987.

Buddy's early career saw him performing with the bands of Joe Marsala, Bunny Berigan and Artie Shaw. In 1938, he was hired to play in Tommy Dorsey's orchestra, receiving top billing on the marquee above singing sensation Frank Sinatra. In 1942, Rich left the Dorsey band to join the United States Marine Corps. He rejoined Dorsey in 1944, and in 1946, formed his own band with financial support from Sinatra and continued to lead different groups on and off until the early fifties. In addition to Tommy Dorsey, he also played with the bands of Benny Carter, Harry James, Les Brown, Charlie Ventura, and Jazz at the Philharmonic, as well as leading his own band and performing with multiple all-star groups. In the early fifties Rich played with Dorsey again and began to perform with trumpeter Harry James, an association which lasted until 1966 when Rich developed his own big band which he fronted until weeks prior to his passing at age 70 and continues to this day with Rich alumni and protégés.

As the most in-demand jazzman of his time, his career encompassed a Who's Who of chart-topping acts and performances using primitive equipment and technology that despite vast improvements and innovation over the years has yet to be matched by any individual. In the words of Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich was simply "the greatest drummer to ever draw breath."
