There are typically excellent vacation deals under these circumstances. The food is usually excellent and diving in the Arabian sea is beautiful. The locals are pleased to see Westerners have confidence in them. Hotel and excursion service is first rate.

I used to watch “House Hunters International.” Many of the families featured would move to these hell holes because they wanted their kids to experience different cultures, or something. Somehow that sounds selfish — putting your children in danger just so you can feel good about giving your children a different cultural experience.
I would imagine that the Americans left in Yemen are Muslims and have family there.
