A group of military veterans is taking aim at U.S. drone strikes overseas with graphic TV ads directly asking Air Force pilots to stop flying the unmanned aircraft, calling the operations immoral and illegal.
The ads are the first commercials opposing U.S. drone operations ever shown on American TV, according to sponsors, which include the Veterans Democratic Club of Sacramento County and the Sacramento chapter of Veterans for Peace. The campaign is spearheaded by an activist website, KnowDrones.com.
The commercials are airing this month on Comcast in Northern California communities near Beale Air Force Base, which is home to Golden Hawk reconnaissance drones.
Pilots at Beale remotely fly the spy drones over areas believed to be controlled by terrorists in foreign countries and pinpoint human targets for attack by armed Predator and Reaper drones.
The two 15-second spots show images from a drone operations video screen, an explosion and civilians searching through rubble after a drone attack. On-screen messages read "Drone killings violate law and morality" and "Drone pilots. Please refuse to fly. No one has to obey an immoral law."

Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.(b) For the purposes of this section, the term “military or naval forces of the United States” includes the Army of the United States, the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, and Coast Guard Reserve of the United States; and, when any merchant vessel is commissioned in the Navy or is in the service of the Army or the Navy, includes the master, officers, and crew of such vessel.
Might be seditious, but they’ll get a pass. It wouldn’t be good press for the military to try veterans, even if it’s against the law.

There is reason to question the Drone program, and the military vets know it. Remember the administration running this program—they have no respect for the lives of their own citizens. I’m not saying don’t use drones, but if you had more knowledge of the actual targeting practices you might change your mind about wanting more. Military vets have likely had access to information you haven’t. We are killing shepherds and many other innocent people based on faulty intel in many cases. Some day we may reap what we’ve sown.

It would be interesting to look deeper, see if their policy makers are vets at all. See who is funding them. Look at the actual vets service records.

Very good points; I wasn't involved in the drone programs when I was in, but my understanding is that they did (at least at the time) have to have affirmative ID and affirmative permissions much like a sniper. (Now, I readily admit that my info was 2nd/3rd hand and, even if accurate, SOP could have changed since then.)
That said, there've been statements to the effect that the President has authorization from Congress for (a) indefinite detention, and (b) [lethal] drone operations against US citizens. (Interesting note: an amendment to the NDAA prohibiting usage of drones against US Citizens was introduced, but not passed into law — perhaps like domestic espionage there are currently [non-lethal?] drone operations against Citizens.)
I'm not sure it is sedition; even by the cited US Code — don't you remember the little gem where Holder said lethal drone operations against citizens was legal?

I mean to say that these are left-coast peace activist veteran groups. They’re exempt from prosecution.
Yes a DD214 will show if they have ever been in the service with type of discharge.
But digging deeper was what I had in mind, if that’s even legal.
My point is, during the Vietnam draft era many draftees (service number prefix “US” - I was RA) had real bad attitudes and were constantly in trouble and many knew first hand what an Article 15 was. Constant bitching and defying authority when ever possible made being around these people unbearable.
I suspect those people of yesterday are no different today and would fit perfectly into one of those California vet organizations.

What’s the moral case against drones, as opposed to bombs or bullets, say? Perhaps we should restrict ourselves to short bladed weapons in wartime?
