Israel could destroy Irans electric network with a specially designed electromagnetic bomb in the event of a military conflict between the countries, The Sunday Times reported on Sunday.
An electromagnetic bomb of this sort would be detonated above the ground, creating an electromagnetic pulse that would disrupt all the technological devices working on the ground, an American expert was quoted as saying to the London paper.
The use of the new technology by Israel was brought up in discussions regarding a possible attack on Tehrans nuclear facilities, the report claimed. Such a move would send Iran back to the stone age, the British paper said.

oh if only!!
I’d settle for the Bronze Age................
A) back to the stone age is a short trip for them
B) they would probably like it
I say.....get-r-done.
So, it would send them back to 1980s Iran?
Is this EMP stuff for real? I know you are quite skeptical.
Aren’t they pretty much there already?
Iran lives in the stone age so that’s no feat.
That’s where their culture and belief system is, so have at it.
Do it Israel!
EMP is a well-established phenomenon.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP), also sometimes called a transient electromagnetic disturbance, is a short burst of electromagnetic energy. Such a pulse may occur in the form of a radiated, electric or magnetic field or conducted electrical current depending on the source, and may be natural or man-made. The term “electromagnetic pulse” is commonly abbreviated to the initialism EMP (which is pronounced by saying the letters separately, “E-M-P”).
EMP interference is generally disruptive or damaging to electronic equipment, and at higher energy levels a powerful EMP event such as a lightning strike can damage physical objects such as buildings and aircraft structures. The management of EMP effects is an important branch of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) engineering.
The damaging effects of high-energy EMP have been used to create EMP weapons. These are typically divided into nuclear and non-nuclear devices. Such weapons, both real and fictional, are becoming known to the public by means of popular culture.
You mean “Forward to the Stone Age.”
No it isn’t real. I had and ‘expert’ FReeper explain it to me as to how lighten proves that there is no such thing as EMP. And he should know as he was an radio operator in the military. (sarc)
Do it...and blame it on Obama.
“...disrupt all the technological devices working on the ground...”
Didn’t the Israeli’s do that already to the Syrians... I think they went over there and basically fried their computers, didn’t they?
Incredibly excellent article about EMP in Forbes the other day..!
Detailed, long and scary as help.
I’m not saying the phenomenon isn’t real. However, I’ve heard that the effects of an EMP weapon aren’t nearly what people say they would be.
