Kremlin could provide cash-strapped Greeks a credit line and discounted energy supplies as Alexis Tsipras meets with Putin
Russia could offer debt-ridden Greece controversial loans and discounts on supplies of natural gas in exchange for the country's "assets", according to reports in Moscow.
Alexis Tsipras, Greeces prime minister, is due to arrive in the city on Tuesday and will meet Vladimir Putin, Russias president, on Wednesday.
Athens overtures to Moscow have raised fears the Leftist government is pivoting east in search of alternatives sources of finance as it bids to avoid bankruptcy. Ahead of his visit, Mr Tsipras condemned economic sanctions on Moscow as a road to nowhere.
Greece's dalliance with the Kremlin has also attracted criticism for potentially undermining the EU's united front against Russia's military intervention in Ukraine.

What assets, besides some pretty islands.
How about a few ports to dock some Russian war ships ...
Russia would love to have a deep water, year round sea port in the Mediterranean !!!
And maybe an airfield or two ...
Putin’s gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.
Exactly—a Russian naval base in Greece. Adios NATO!
Though, honestly, the Greeks can be real pains in the a$$. The Russians can have ‘em.
Bend over Greeks!
Gas company. Train line. A couple of ports.
That was their biggest investment in Syria, a port that doesn’t ice over.
Buy up land to let you build more oil pipelines to Mediterranean ports, and Greek shipyards to build more ships to transport it.
Still it does make for good political usage depending on which side of all the sides make use of it.
future incomes of the peasants (if any) and mineral rights?
Pingski
Buy it with what? I thought Russia was having economic problems with the crash in gas prices. Her government bonds are rated almost as low as Greece.
I'm sure Putin is terrified of the EU.
As much as the Greeks are strapped for cash and in a vulnerable position, the EU will NOT let them go.
I believe that the Greeks, along with possibly Portugal and Spain (and maybe Italy, too) are debt slaves to the EU and will effectively give up their sovereignty (to the EU) in the very near future.
They will NOT become a Russian vassal state.
Russia has oil, Greece has millions who need oil and some of the highest gas prices in the world.
I can see Russia providing X millions of gallons of oil to Greece in exchange for land for a military base, X gallons of oil to burn for electricity in return for use of ports or beaches.
