NCAA National Championship Wisconsin v Duke (+1, 140 o/u) CBS TV 9:18pm EDT thread
Bo has ever right to vent. No problem. Lots of coaches have and do. But sportscasters ought not keep telling viewers “He’s a class act.” Not after last night. He’s just like most of us. But a little whinier.
Two bad calls doesn’t make it any better. But the replay one...I’m like WTF! Why even have replay when something so clear as what I saw gets ignored.
I can forgive the live fouls and stuff as human nature, but not the screwed up instant replay.
Sounds like a Hillary Clinton lawyer.
ESPN made fools of the crowd that would say that. Did you see that special? Didn’t make the Duke haters look smart, or classy, or even accurate.
Not at all. Certainty is the rule.
The Duke hatred is a breed apart from all the other haters. And almost no one in NC pulls for Duke. They’re not even close to as popular in their hometown as UNC is in Durham.
Tiny school. Small fan base. To say they are an “empire” like the Yankees or the Cowbosy - both of whom have massive fan bases - and massive resources - is just absurd.
What was I correct about?
To make the Final Four every single year of Christian Laettner's career was simply astounding and incredible.
Yet, you had no problem in describing this psychosis as nation-wide.
True that....but Duke hatred is an infantile psychoses that is nationwide - and yet, none of them can babble two syllables together to tell you why. - #234
Nationwide but not an empire. Okay!
The finger tip out of bounds call was a tough one to overturn but it was another call in a series of calls that deflated Wisconsin. The Duke guards were spectacular and Wisconsin was not shooting well but still could have won with decent refereeing. Winslow stepped out of bounds on the offensive end and did not get called. Result? Three point play for Duke. Allen drove the left side, fell down without a touch and got the call. Two more points. Winslow charges like a fullback and Wisconsin gets called for blocking. Two more points. Then Wisconsin guy posts up on other end and Duke takes a flop. Offensive foul. That series of awful calls turned the game around. PS: I bet real money on Duke so its not like I am a cheese head. :-)
No one called Duke an empire, I said the reason they have been disliked is similar to the Cowboys, Yankees and Raiders for that matter, when the Raiders were in their heyday. They all win.
See #4
I did but there were only three refs. Lol.
I’m just teasing you. There isn’t any game played where they don’t do an analysis afterwards and the defeated and victorious always have different takes on it.
Without a doubt Duke put money in my pocket but I gotta call em as I see em.
I didn’t think it was that bad of a game. They didn’t call it close, but I don’t like ‘referee ball’. If I did, I go to referee training camp and watch them learn.
But, it wasn’t any referee that was dropping those 3 pointers in a split second after moving around a pick. That was pure shooting ability.
Dukes shooters were hitting, and Wisconsin’s weren’t. Wisconsin’s shooters killed Kentucky, but they weren’t deadeye last night the way they were in the Kentucky game.
Duke just signed a high school kid from our area who hits them from any position around the arc as fast as he can sling them. I think he pops them with his eyes closed.
Tournaments are won by shooters. Rebounders and defense gets them there, but winning comes down to consistent and clutch shooting.
I don’t know what you think you are accomplishing by nit picking and taking things out of context and then strutting around like a Pigeon trying to play chess....crapping the board and knocking the pieces off the table.
The hatred is nationwide...and the state of NC is IN this nation...and is clearly a big part of it. Your comments are just illogical and non sequiturs.
You gonna play in this league, you better wear your cleats - we tee off from the tips and there’s no mulligans.
Well I was living the era that Duke went from a formerly great program that was way down, but widely loved.....to them being a good, then great, then dominant program - that was hated.
What the ESPN special made clear is what I’ve always known...the hatred is absurd, misplaced, and based on totally incorrect assumptions. People see K and Laettner on TV and think they “hate” them. They don’t know them.
I thought the ESPN special exposed the haters as petty, baseless, small....while Duke, K, and the entire Laettner family came off as not only great, but worthy of respect and admiration.
Nobody called them an empire. Sorry if English is your second language and you don’t understand that and think you can call people out on the carpet and say others said things they didn’t.
Many people have called them an empire...many people have compared them to the Yankees and the Cowboys. Been going on for many years.
And they’re not, not in the sense the Yankees and the cowboys are. But that’s how they’re viewed by many in the sports media and millions of fans.
