NCAA National Championship Wisconsin v Duke (+1, 140 o/u) CBS TV 9:18pm EDT thread
Duke defeated Michigan State U. by 20 points, so seeing their other scores in the tournament, this was a bit of a wake-up call.
Notre Dame defeated them less than a month ago, Miami defeated them handily early in the season, I think Miami was in the NIT.
Even with their championships, Duke has also suffered in a number of these March Madness tournaments as well which yes, some people take glee at. I wasn’t for them but I did think the odds were on their side this time.
Well they watched it for a while and should have seen what everyone else can see. I’m sure that machine has zoom on it. If they can’t handle the job of ref they shouldn’t be there.
Now that we knew they screwed up that call...what other calls did they screw up that wasn’t under replay? It was obvious to me that they were officiating with an outcome in mind in the 2nd half.
And I don’t hate that duke won...I’m happy for them and my friends that are duke fans. I really don’t like Basketball, but NCAA tourney is about the only thing I’ll watch with basketball. I’m just disappointed at all the excuses and cover up for the refs.
And duke fans are typically very gracious people...except for Edward on this thread. The fact that there aren’t more of those like Edward proves my point.
Okay, so we’re all talking about the same play. Just wasn’t sure. Yes, it could have been W’s ball. I thought the refs had reversed themselves and was a little surprised to see they did not change the initial call.
But, unlike you, I enjoyed watching the whole game a lot because of the competitiveness and hustle and smarts. I’ve seen worse-officiated title games. A lot worse.
College basketball is unwatchable compared to what it was 10-15 years ago, the One-and-Dones are killing it.
but if a ball touched a finger hard enough to bend it back, the ball would obviously move. It’s super imposed...I’m not sure that finger even touched it. It’s not BENT BACKWARDS - these people are much more agile than you and I....and this guys hands are amazing.
Wisconsin had to be the giant-killer in this tournament defeating Kentucky 38-0 and maybe Ky’s schedule wasn’t the toughest.
This is a bit like in the World Cup, when a team has defeated formerly perennial favorites Brazil but don’t end up actually winning the World Cup. Beating the big boy may take a lot out of them.
Still, as I said, Duke defeated MSU by 20, if Duke had been paired up against nemesis Kentucky, that would have been interesting but it didn’t come down to that.
And still again, I think Wisconsin needed OT to defeat Michigan State for the Big 10 championship.
It’s not obvious. You clearly want to disregard the bad calls the other way. That’s childish. That is denying human nature. Why would the refs possibly want to do that? It must makes no sense.
Kentucky was the only SEC team that won a tournament game, that says it all about their level of competition.
One call wouldn’t have made the game, but I didn’t think it was certain that Duke player was bending his fingers or if his finger got bent by ball. I saw zero change in trajectory or speed of the ball.
So, since they must be CERTAIN to overrule on court call, my guess is that they didn’t think it was absolutely certain.
Shall we talk about certain Duke professors?
I didn’t think the new big east looked all that good either.
True that....but Duke hatred is an infantile psychoses that is nationwide - and yet, none of them can babble two syllables together to tell you why.
Because they win but that effects all winning teams in the end, Yankees, Cowboys. Though I know many in North Carolina were for Duke, I do think a lot of NC fans are against Duke.
Some years ago, I found websites of people who had this disdain for Duke, check out this book. It's not hard to find to track down this dislike, I once found a website I believe with that same name. I'm neutral myself.
Turns out that you were correct, enjoy!
Yup, you called it!
Tarheels fans, yes, that is a lot of the anti-Duke sentiment but of course, not all of it by a longshot.
“We don’t do rent-a-player”- Bo Ryan.
He vented a little, maybe not all of it in the best interest of sportsmanship; oh well, I don’t see there were any riots or unrest to speak of in Madison. That’s something.
Yes, Madison has it’s liberal history, ever consider too, Senator Joe McCarthy was from Wisconsin and the John Birch Society has been there for quite a while as well though not started there.
