NCAA National Championship Wisconsin v Duke (+1, 140 o/u) CBS TV 9:18pm EDT thread
It was a terrible call, why even bother having replay?
It’s all jealousy. And it’s not accurate. Like “hands up, don’t shoot” - it’s a lie that’s taken hold.
I guarantee you that a call by call analysis of every call made last night for the entire 40 minutes would not show Duke got favorable treatment. The discrepency in the first half was greater than in the second. It was Duke, not Wisky, in foul trouble. The fourth foul on Okafor was the worst call of the game - but no one is talking about that. The missed out of bounds was inexcusable, but that was one possession. A bad call that sends Okafor to the bench is a far more damaging bad call.
Just sore losers, jealous....
Anyone else see Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill’s tweet after the game?
“Congrats to Duke, but I was rooting for team who had stars that are actually going to college & not just doing semester tryout for NBA,”
sorry you don’t like the sport. Maybe you shouldn’t have bothered to post on this thread. I never understand people who drop by a thread they have no interest in to brag about their lack of interest. Kinda infantile....
I like it enough to waste my time on a game that was decided by refs. As I said I watch some of the tourney and will watch a championship game. To have the refs pick the winner it completely wasted my time, so yeah I think I can post on a forum discussing the topic. It would probably make more sense for blind fanboys not to post for 72 hours because most the stuff they say will be stupid.
Exactly! Wisconsin gets fewer fouls than just about anyone else in NCAA this year. So the 2nd half being completely different and the obvious replay cheat...well I think it’s obvious to everyone but the most blind fanboy that the refs decided Duke was going to win.
I have several huge duke fans as friends and none of them are saying Duke didn’t get a little ref help.
It’s a shame too...if duke didn’t get the refs to cheat for htem...they could have won legit. This will just make more duke haters. But really what makes more duke haters is people like you trying to deny the obvious.
Kind of like Patriots fans...they are just asses. But lucky for Duke I find most of their fans are very good people. Coach K is a classy guy to me and a great coach. I just wish the refs were as good as he is.
Unfortunately we will never know :-(
Yes Duke was running hot. And the cheating refs on the out of bounds instant replay made me question their other calls that didn't look quite fair to me. I was going to let those slip...like calling blocking when it was clearly a charge. Or the one guy going out of bounds. But those weren't under replay so it was an "honest" miss by the ref. But the obvious replay call that they cheated on...pulled all the other calls into question.
And it's a shame the refs did this to the sport and duke.
In that kind of game momentum turns on a dime.
But the refs did become the star of the game...did you see the blown call on INSTANT REPLAY?
I mean why even have it if they are going to miss the obvious. But the refs were also the stars when they called the mugging on one end of the court but not the other. Yes I agree most coaches aren’t prepared for one-sided ref games.
Having said that I don’t mind duke winning at all. I just hate that the refs didn’t call a fair game and inserted themselves into choosing the winner.
Un you must not have watched the same replay I watched. The guys middle finger bent backwards as the ball hit it. Now hold your hand out flat and try to move your middle finger backwards. Can’t do it. ALso the ball changed spin when it hit his finger.
It’s really obvious from a couple of the angles he touched it. It’s a shame too...Duke could have had a non-ref assist win for the championship.
I don’t believe a word you said. Yes, Wisconsin gets fewer fouls called than anyone but Duke is much quicker, drives the ball more, and DRAWS MORE FOULS than any other team.
Duke was just quicker. Beat their Asses TWICE - both times in front of hostile crowds. TWICE. Same way both times: Dekker held down and Tyus going off late. It’s not a fluke. It’s not refs. Duke is just a little bit better, and a little better coached. Wisconsin is damned good, but not the best.
I’ll quote Colin Cowherd, who is the most logical and probably the smartest of all the ESPN talent (though he has bought into some liberal world view crap, he doest think independently).
8 replay angles. Only one showed a MAYBE touch of the ball. One out of 8. The refs are not in a quiet living room with a hi def flat screen that’s 100 inches. They are looking down into a small monitor with 70 thou fans screaming.
One angle out of 8, showed a maybe.
see what you want to see, there is NO rotation change on that ball. NONE. That means any contact was at the molecular level.
Let’s look at Okafor’s FOURTH FOUL phantom call? Let’s look at the first half. People are just whiney and ridiculous.
By *may* have touched it you mean that on a couple angles of video you can clearly see the Duke players finger get bent backwards by touching the ball and the spin of the ball changing.
Yes that’s the play that made it clear all the other “questionable” fouls being called and not called (helping one team) came into clarity after the obvious replay cheat.
I’m not saying Duke isn’t a better team. But it’s obvious last night that the refs wanted to make sure of it.
Really it is obvious. I’m don’t have a dog in the race other than wanting to watch a good fair game.
This is the crap you see in boxing and UFC when it goes to the refs...but the replay call made it crystal clear to everyone without blinders on what really happened.
Duke may have still won. Like I said they probably are the better team. But the refs did help them out.
Now you bend your finger like that without having something push on it ;-)
I do see the finger bending backward but like you said, the refs didn’t have the luxury of mulling it over endlessly.
